I ordered a Hygroset II digital hygrometer to put in the humidor Bill sent me. Calibrated it over night and if was off by 5%...anyways it's now keeping track of all my new cigars and its holding at 70* and 71% RH!!!
my question is should i worry too much when temperatures start to go up or should i take out the boveda and just use the element on the lid?
My experience... keep your humidor away from heat sources like furnace vents or windows with bright sunshine hitting them. Ideally, you don't want your cigars getting above around 70 degrees. Also keep in mind that when it gets hot in the summer and you start running the AC in your home, it takes humidity out of the air. External dry air can "leech" humidity from your humidor, especially if it doesn't have a good seal. I actually keep my humidors/cigars in my unregulated basement [no heat/AC]. The temp stays between 55 degrees [winter] and 65 degrees [summer]. And humidity stays around 60% [winter] and 70% summer. I know you are a student and may not have access to a basement or such. I would just make sure that you keep it away from heat, make sure you have a good seal and check your humidity device every couple of weeks. Oh, and only open your humidor when you need to as opening it allows all the humidity to escape and then it has to restabilize. I hope this wasn't overkill and I hope it helps. Good luck!
thanks alot...yeah I've just got my humi in my file cabinet mainly for keeping all the jealous guys in my hall out of my stash lol but it also is probably the most stable place in my room.
