There are basically nine important areas where tobacco is grown for making cigars. Some of these are more well-known than others, and they certainly have distinct taste and aroma differences. Here's a quick rundown on these areas:

Cuba - Simply the finest in the world. Strong, full-bodied and aromatic.

The Dominican Republic - An up and comer, Dominican cigar tobacco comes from Cuban seeds.

Equator - Produces high quality tobacco, from seeds of Connecticut and Sumatra plants.

Honduras and Nicaragua - Strong, full-bodied leaves that are subject to the political problems of the region.

Mexico - Known for a Sumatran sun-grown variant.

United States - near Hartford, Connecticut is grown of some the finest wrapper tobacco in the world, known as Connecticut Shade.

Cameroon - This Western Africa area produces fine wrapper leaves.

Indonesia - This is where the Sumatra or Java tobacco originates.

Philippines - A mild, aromatic leaf used for cigars.

Throughout the years, I have found something that I have liked from every region of the world. However, the region I typically stick to is Nicaragua. Their tobacco is rich in both flavor and strength
Cuba - Simply the finest in the world.....

I disagree. Completely. I think anything, Anything, ANYTHING in our humidor at the shop for about $6 and up is so totally superior to Cuban tobacco it's not even funny... The tobacco in a "domestically available" stick is cured properly, aged correctly and controllable.... stick after stick, box after box, year after year.... To say Cuban tobacco is the finest in the world, while an opinion, is a slap in the face to the Reyes, Fuentes, Eiroas and countless others....

Just my 2 cents....
Dude,
Taste is subjective. I prefer Cuban cigars, to almost any other, except Nicaragua. I doubt you could find anything in your shop, in the $6-$8 range, that would make me put aside the Bolivar CEs that I am currently smoking. That said, I would have never have made the OPs declaration, that Cuba grows the finest tobacco in the world.
I would say my favorite cigars are Cuban, followed by Nicaraguan Puros, followed by the Dominican Republic.

I'm always touting the taste of a Cameroon wrapped anything or the Dominican leaf.... lately I have been consumed with the origination of tobacco used to roll our sticks and would love to give it a shot at growing only I don't have the space (bummer). I have seen some great threads in regards to growing and man it looks fun.
Nicaraguan tobacco, particularly from the Jalapa region.
Im diggin the Conn. shade wrapped cigars
"Cuban seed tobaccos grown in Nicaragua and Cuba. The wrapper would be from Cuba. The binder leaves would be from Nicaragua. For the ligero tobacco in the filler, he would use two types, one from Esteli and the other from Jalapa in Nicaragua. The other filler components, seco and viso, would come from Cuba, the former from Villa Clara, the latter from Pinar del Rio. That Cigar, he says with pride, would score 100 points."

I really love Honduras. However, I have been living in Mexico for the past couple of years and have got to love some of the San Andrés Tuxtla brands. Best non-Cuban cigar I have tried recently is a "A. Turrent Six Generations". Really magnificent! Anyone has tried it in the States?

Please do not forget Costa Rica!!

The Puriscal region and the San Isidro region both produce tobacco that are used by many Costa Rica and non-Costa Rica manufacturers!

( I am a little bit biased)
