The Six Major Colors of Cigar Wrappers

Ever wonder what the story is behind the different types of wrapper leaves that cigar rollers use when they are rolling your next great smoke? Well, here's the facts!

Nowadays there are six color variants in use. There used to be as many as ten, but now we're dealing with just six. Wrapper leaves are grown in the countries of Cuba, Sumatra, The United States, Brazil, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Honduras and Cameroon.

The six shades are:
Claro claro - A sweet, lightly green wrapper leaf.
Claro - This is a light tan wrapper leaf, usually grown in the shade. It possesses a neutral flavoring.
Natural - Light to medium brown, it too is grown in the shade.
Colorado - This wrapper leaf is brown to reddish brown, with a rich taste and pleasing aroma.
Maduro - Spanish for "ripe", the Maduro wrapper leaf is cured longer to produce a rich, dark brown appearance.
Oscuro - Also known as "negro" to denote its dark coloring, it takes the most time to be ready for the rollers.

More great facts to fascinate your friends as you enjoy your cigars!

I love maduro and oscuro cigars...so rich and flavorful with that spice that I like!
Cameroon and a spicy Sumatra for me, with a sweet, dark Maduro running a close second. Corojo is starting to pick up some respect with me as well.
Same plus Sumatra.
In my so far limited experience, I'd say Cameroon for me, with maduro a close second.
Maduro, especially Connecticut Broadleaf maduro. mmmmm....connecticut broadleaf.
Maduro and oscuro for me with African Cameroon running a close second. The majority of my cigars are maduro or darker.
I like Connecticut

when in doubt:

Too wierd!
Ah, John, I have had the ITC Split Decision Quad - it's not bad. I don't really notice any change in flavor as you go through the different wrappers, do you? A decent smoke all the way, though.

I've heard that Arganese's barber pole is supposed to be the best - even if it does only have two alternating wrappers, not four...
I like sweet, oily maduros. Gimme a double maduro cigar and I'm in heaven.
i've been on a corojo kick lately.. like the maduro and oscoro wrappers also..
