Cigar Social Network

Hello Group!
I am a craftsman in Oregon who makes guitars and ukuleles out of recycled cigar boxes.
I am here because I need to find Larger Boxes for making guitars. The large ones are hard to find.
I just made a guitar out of a Camacho Liberty box and it sounds and plays great!
I want to make more!
I need help in obtaining large boxes.
Liberty boxes anyone?

Welcome. Do you smoke cigars?
Welcome to the Social Cigar Forum Perfesser Blue!

That is a neat hobby. But I am wondering the same thing as Russell, Do you smoke cigars?

Oh are you here ONLY for the purposes of acquiring cigar boxes?
Thank you all for such a warm welcome.
To answer questions posted to me:

I smoke a pipe usually. I Occaisionally enjoy a cigar, usually a summertime thing for me, a small celebration when I have an hour to enjoy some small victory in life...I like a thin cafe maduro or something mellow as I am just a beginner when it comes to cigars. Besides, I am only a craftsman, I cannot afford an expensive cigar, or even a moderately priced one.
Maybe someday I can smoke with you big dogs.
I will have to ask you for directions to the good ones!

Yes, I did come here to find some empty boxes. I found this forum while on the Camacho website. I thought that the people here might be the right resource group to network with.
So I signed up to come to the folks in the know. You.

I do hope that I do not offend anyone here with my quest for your dicarded empties.
I would like to share the enjoyment I have had for not only tobacco, but also the music that accompanies the living of the good life. Do you enjoy a song with that brandy and the cigar?
Yes, I am here to find boxes. The Larger ones.
I have built a guitar out of a Camacho Liberty box. She sings well. I want to build more.

I could use large boxes that are made of wood, and have good resonant tap tone.
Sizes? Well, the Liberty box is 14 in x 8 in, that is one hand span by two hand spans ( for those of us that still go by cubits like Noah did).
It made a small guitar that is nice and resonant with steel strings over frets made with street cleaner bristles and other recycled materials.

The tradition is as old as the cigar box itself. That is, about 150 years po' boys and bluesmen have built their own from found materials. Some call it art, some call it music.

My Ukuleles sound and play as good as anything else in the price range that may be on the music store wall, but they are also a tobacciana theme / tobacco related artwork

I am willing to respect financial issues with regard to costs and shipping and all of that, not a problem.

I am willing to respect the group and their topics and focus.

I am not a commercial company, just a little guy with a chisel, a saw, some tool scars, and a dream.

Thank you all for any attention, education, and assistance you may offer to me.

Z.B. Blue

PS: I dont quite know how to add the freinds on this website. Ill add you as soon as I figure it out.
Nice response, Perfesser! I think you explained yourself very well and I, personally, am not offended by your participation or your inquiry. Just do remember, that the main focus of this site is the enjoyment of cigars and the brotherhood surrounding it.

I may, from time to time, have boxes that are of the size that you might need. If I come up with some, I would gladly send them to you. I may ask that you make one for me in the future as well as I think it would be a nice collectable to have. Good luck with your art... it is definetly a dying one so it is nice to see someone keeping the old ways alive.
Perfesser,

I don't think anyone is offended. We were asking because this is after all a cigar forum where people get together to discuss cigars. A request such as this may come across to some as a means for someone to make money off of someone else's enjoyment. And that is not what this forum or cigar smoking is all about.

But since you have provided more information, I am intrigued by your ability to make stringed instruments from something like a cigar box.

As I said before, it sounds like a very cool hobby.

Again, Welcome to the Social Cigar Forum. You have come to the right place if you wish to learn more about cigars, AND where to find good yet inexpensive cigars that meet the income of a craftsman.

We have a number of college students here. And college students are usually poor. If college students can enjoy good cigars on the cheap, you certainly should be able to as well. :-D
Good points HBD!! Everyone should be able to enjoy a good cigar... no matter the budget!
Thank you all for responding so positively.
I can afford an occaisional smoke, I keep it under 5, often under 3 bucks, so I have found a fuente cafe maduro that I do enjoy. It is the ten and twenty dollar burning that I have not done yet. When I get there, do I pair it with brandy , whiskey, or with old dark rum?
I wonder what a Liberty is like?
Ill have to start a coin change jar- thats the ticket!
In the meantime, Yes, I like the pretty boxes too.
Crazy, huh?
well, it makes good music happen!
I have played the Liberty guitar (only 2 weeks old) on stage several times now, and it sounds as good as smoke!
The size of the box is about 9" x 14".
That is what I mean by a bigger box.
I would love to find more Liberty boxes, but I know they are not easy to come by.
Maybe somebody here has a line on something like that.
I dont mind paying a bit for postage and all that you might need to cover the cost.
I do sell my ukes, they are easy to play and they sound good as anything else on the music store wall.
I have sold 3 or 4, but I have only been at it a while.
I can make one for you if you wish. It would run about 300 to 400, with acoustic-electric pickup.
Well smoke, sing and laugh!
Ill not sell the guitar until I have made another.
Why?
Simple: I like it myself!
I do need to make pictures for you, but the work schedule is tight this week.
Speaking of which, look at the time!
OOh, I gotta go!

All things tobacciana?
Thanx!
You can reach me thru email at

I can make one specially for you with the features you desire.
Perhaps there is a favorite cigar or box you enjoy?
I find Padron boxes work very well, but Camacho also has a few effective models, also Cohiba has an all wood box...
I would enjoy sharing the music and the madness with you.

I have just added some Cigar Box Ukelele Photos and an old Gene Autry song played on the Padron Uke.
This is a big part of my cigar obsession.
Yes, Custom Ukes and such can be built for you.
I enjoy smoking Maduros.
I enjoy building axes from the empties.
I enjoy this hobby as well. Here's a couple of pics of the ones I've built.
Enjoy!

Here's a pict of Rocky jamming out at Cigar Fest '08 on the RP-CBG I built.

Nice work, Chuck!
