Hey this is Me, Scribe. Been lurking mostly but finally have a neophyte type question or two. Just for background I have smoked now and then over the years but recently began getting more deeply into cigars. I have been experimenting with various brands. My favorites so far are La Flor Domenicana DL chisels, Ashton VSG Illusions, and especially Padron Anniversary 1964, which I sprung for a box :) I worked up to them after trying samplers from vendors like Thompson. So here is the question: I "get" the difference between a $3 stick and a $10 one. But I see prices way higher than that. I guess at the moment $10 is my threshold of pain, but what the hell does another $10 buy? For $20 I should be having an orgasm, or at least tripping out ???? Is there a real difference or is brand hype?

Some people believe that the prices that premium cigars command are worth it. Others do not. I do not believe in paying the prices that premium cigars command. I don't think they are worth it.

For example, Arturo Fuente has their traditional line with the green band around the foot. It is a good cigar that is well constructed and it tastes good. But, comparatively speaking, I don't think that a cigar of the same size in one of their premium lines like Don Carlos that costs 3-4 times more, tastes 3-4 times better. It doesn't make sense to me to pay the higher price for a cigar that might taste moderately better.

The AF Opux X for instance. Some find them to be fantastic. I am very disappointed in them. Big Deal! That's what I think of the Opus X.

The same goes fopr Cuban cigars. They are supposed to be head and shoulders above all non-Cubans. I am less than impressed by them. Ho Hum... While other believe them to be the best cigar that money can buy.

And the difference between your $3 and $10 stick? I don't even see that. I will never pay more than 5-6 for a cigar. And begrudgingly at that. You can find several dozen cigars that range between 2$-$4 per stick that are aweome cigars. You don't need to pay Big Bucks for a great tasting cigar.

A High Price does not make a better tasting cigar.
Thanks for confirming my thoughts! (btw I also think that certain makers use exotic flavoring to cover for using sweepings off the barn floor to hold down cost and maximize profit) But what "awesome" sticks would you recommend that I try out in the $2 to $4 range?
