Am I doing this right?

So I got a Humidor over the weekend off of my neighbor who has given up smoking all together. Well he hasn't used it forever and let the humidity laps and used it to hold the door open at his house. I guess looking at it like that I rescued it lol. I the question I have is.... I bought one of those crystal bags that you soak in water (distilled does that matter?) which I haven't done yet. I was told to soak those crystals and then let them sit in the humidor for 5-6 days b4 putting cigars in and then after putting cigars in let it sit another 2-3 days with the cigars in so they become acclimated to the humidity which should be 70%. Is this correct? If not what should I do so I have a great set up to put some sticks in and be able to enjoy them.
