I like Flamenco Jazz - Jose Luis Encinas, Behzad etc. as well as Classic Jazz.
I often smoke at Velvet Cigar Lounge in New York City, which has XM Radio. They play the channel that focusses on the music of Frank Sinatra and the other crooners of his generation, for ex., Bing Crosby, Fred Astaire, Tony Bennett, Ella Fitzgerald. I find that music great to listen to - there's nothing like listening to "That's Life!" or "The Lady is a Tramp" while smoking my cigar.
I like metal, Jpop, hip-hop, Eurobeat, rock and stand-up (Lewis Black, Dane Cooke, Mitch Hedburgh).

My most-played artists include Aira Mitsuki, Mudvayne, Lil Jon, Dave Rogers, Spineshank, Linkin Park, Motley Crue, DMX, DJ Taka, BT, Korn, Beastie Boys and T.I.

....yeah, I'll listen to pretty much anything and everything. (^_^ )
Love me some Sinatra, but I do dig his successors like Diana Krall and Michael Buble. Sublime is great, listened to them last night while enjoying a Fonseca.
Current XM Lineup:

Bluegrass
Elvis Presley
Symphony Hall (all classical, all the time)
Old New Wave (Sex Pistols, B52s, Clash etc.)
Deep Tracks (album cuts from 60s and 70s)
Classic Soul
Grateful Dead
Contemporary Jazz

always subject to change at a moments whim, December was heavy Christmas channel
I actually dont really listen to music whilst enjoying a cigar, usually because I almost never smoke alone and just enjoy the conversation of the people I am with, but if I happen to be alone I usually read a good book or paint.
However since the question is on music, the times I have listened to music I typically go for some nice ambient music (I Usually listen to Hard Rock and Metal)
Damn, no kidding!
The same could be said about jazz and it's place and time, though....on the Weather Channel. (^_^ )
Ouch. Apparently, you've never heard any late Coltrane. That stuff would only be good as background music for cataclysmic disaster.
BTW, I love love love late Coltrane. I just know that it sends some people screaming into the night.

However, "A Love Supreme" and "Meditations" (for example), have great variety, from sweet tuneful, sedate moments to swingy bluesy raunch to ecstatic, cacophonic brilliance.
MMK = noisy crapper
Most of that is true, however I cannot agree with unable to carry a tune. Some of the most talented musicians I have ever seen and met play Metal and in some of its forms are some of the most complicated and dynamic sounding music I have ever heard.
