Casa Magna Colorado
In 10 Words or Less
A good medium-full bodied smoke with flavor; questionable construction.
The Details
Eye appeal is buy appeal. Such is the case with the Casa Magna Colorado. As implied, the beautiful dark brown wrapper derived from Ligero Cuban seed with a deep reddish hue of this Nicaraguan puro is striking. In the hand, the texture is smooth and clean, glistening with rich oily sheen. Special care is evident as you inspect the cap; it is nothing less than meticulous. After clipping the cap and toasting the foot, the Casa Magna comes to life.
Based on the initial observations, one would surmise the corona would provide a memorable experience. Memorable as it was, there are a few things I would like to forget. Pleasing flavors are evident from the outset and remain intact throughout the smoke. The burn was crisp with a pleasing draw. Inspecting the ash, light gray tones were predominate ate, with sporadic streaks of black. It is here that I began to notice some irregularities. First, the ash was very weak. By and large, approximately one half inch was in place just before it would detach and drop off. I now noticed an inconsistent burn quality within the cigar itself where the center filler leaves burned at a fast rate than the outer filler, binder and wrapper. I attempted to adjust my rate of smoke, but to no avail; the ash was weak and the burn rate, irregular. Even so, I was able to pull some very unique flavors intermingled with a quality tobacco taste. One could only thing the cigar would be special if all components worked in unison.
The team of Quesada and Plascencia are responsible for the creation of this Nicaraguan Puro, in the factories in Estelí, Nicaragua. My corona, 6 by 42, is one of seven available sizes: Belicoso, Extraordinario, Gran Toro, Pilito, Robusto and Torito.
Given the bloodlines of the Casa Magna, and the flavors derived even with my cigar malfunction, I need to give this one another try. I can comfortably suggest you do the same.
