Alright peeps for a topic just a diverse and passion filled as our beloved cigars themselves, lets talk lighters! Some swear a wooden match is the ONLY proper way to light a cigar, most of us use butane torches. I personally think it looks cool when an old timer breaks out his old war zippo and puffs that stick ablaze like a man who's seen it all and doesn't care what you have to think about it. Fire back let me know ya thoughts yall.

I use my lotus t3 all the time love it. The tat emblem wore off. It's soposed to be a table lighter but at 6'4" and 300 it works well as my pocket lighter.
Xikar lighter, but there is nothing like a Z I P P O.
rip Colibri
I love a long wooden match, but sometimes artificial fire is just more practical.
I have a Lotus single flame torch that I carry, and at home, I like to use Alec Bradley's "The Burner" which always lights a cigar perfectly.

Anything BUT Colibri. Colibri has had more problems with their lighters across their broad spectrum than seemingly all other lighters combined.

Should you choose a butane torch type lighter, there are two things that you must do to extend the life of that torch:

1) Every time...that's EVERY TIME that you refill the lighter, before you add more fuel, bleed off any pressure that is still contained in the tank. Butane is pressurized. When the fuel exits the can and enters the lighter fuel tank, compressed air also enters. If you neglect to bleed off the extra pressure each time you refuel, additional air is forced into the tank. And although you might run out of fuel, you'll more than likely still have compressed air in the tank.

Over time that pressure continues to build. And when you attempt to use the lighter, you might see a brief flicker of flame and then nothing. What is happening is that the pressure in the tank is so high, it is essentially blowing out the flame which is why it flickers briefly and goes out.

2) Every second or third time you refill your lighter, give your lighter a CABJ, or a Compressed Air Blow-Job. Over time as you light your cigars, particles of ash as well as other contaminants can fall into the orrifice where flame is produced. These contaminants will build up and clog your lighter. Buy a can of compressed air, the type that you might use to clean the dust and crumbs out of electronic components such as a computer keyboard, and give your lighter where the flame comes out a few 1 to 2 second blasts of air. This will help dislodge and clear away any particulates that may have built up during those times you were lighting your cigars.

I have managed to keep almost every lighter that I ever bought, both expensive and the El Cheapos, operational by following these two maintenance routines.

Topped for the Newbies.

Want to keep that favorite lighter of yours working strong?

I still need to find a good lighter that lasts. I am not particularly nice to my lighters so the cheapo plastic ones don't survive for very long.
I'll look into both. Thanks for the tips.
When i really have the time i love the long wooden matches. I think there is a certain style and effort put in to lighting the perfect stick you have waited for after a long day. when on the go I use my Xikar lighter.
I'm a huge fan of matches as well. Oliva has some promotion matches that light easily and are a good 4 inches long.

I want someone to make hardwood matches. They would have to light very hot but they would burn for a year.

I have had a bunch of different cheap torch lighters and they usually end up breaking or just stopped working, even having taken the steps mentioned. I have had friends with the same exact lighter that don't take any steps and they still have those lighters. Go figure. For a while I was into the whole only use wooden matches but after a while I found it much easier to just use a torch. And yes, I have used Zippos and Bic lighters at times, hey, do what you gotta do to have a cigar right?

After about a year or so of not having a torch lighter I decided to start looking again and lucky me, my amazing girlfriend surprised me with a Porsche PD3 Edition 1 Black lighter. All I can say is wow! I am in love with this lighter.
