I'm not a fan of Fuente cigars, but you never want to hear bad news happening to anyone:

It doesn't say what lines of cigars the lost tobacco was used for.

I'm sure they'll bounce back though.

Permalink Reply by Loomis™ on August 28, 2011 at 1:26am I'm sorry to hear this news. In my opinion the Fuente family has provided us with many good cigars in the past and still today. A few that I would not like to see to become as rare as their #77 Shark Anejo's and a few others. If I was to select a few everyday go to cigars there would be a few Fuentes to make the list. The "Signature" is certainly one of them. I like to keep a stash of Short Story's around for the Midwest's unpredictable winter weather.I like to have a few Opus X around for those special occasions such as Spring, Summer, and Autumn. For those of us who may enjoy the Hemingway "Between The Lines" well there may not be lines after this year.
I'm not a tobacco retailer but I wonder where Fuente sales rate with your favorite B&M's, or Fuente vs.your favorite brand may fall. Has anyone ever been to a B&M and not seen a Fuente cigar on the shelf? I've been in more than a few B&M's since I started smoking cigars. I don't recall being in more than a few where I haven't noticed that Fuente has the largest spread of shelf space. How will this fire affect cigar sales for your favorite B&M over the next 5 years or more?
I'm hopeful the fire was not as bad as it sounds. I for one hate hearing that tobacco that could be as old as the early 60's is lost in a fire.
This stuff occurs with the tobacco companies from time to time. Fuente always seems to do a press release when it happens to them. Back when the primo stuff only got shipped out twice a year or so we'd joke that the national sales rep for Fuente/Newman (who lives around here) had a "wheel of excuses" that he'd spin if the Opus X's and such were gonna show up late. Things like:
--Hurricane
--Labor dispute
--Civil unrest
--Barn fire
--Mold
--Not enough rain
--Too much rain
You get the idea.
