So since my back surgery I have a routine where everytime I change my clothes, morning and in the evening, I rub my hands over my back to feel for any changes. The reason for this is the doctor sent me home with some paperwork that stated that if I were to feel a buldge on by back under pressure I was to call his office immediately or go to the e.r. So the other night I was home alone and was changing into my night clothes, and I began to rub my hands over my back and I feel this buldge on my back the size of an egg. So here I am by myself, no shirt on, wife is not due home for a half an hour or so, and I am scared to death to move at all. So while sitting there freaking out and waiting on her to come home I was trying to think of what I could have done that day to have caused something to have gone wrong in my back. I thought that one of the rods had came loose and was pushing against my skin or one of the cages had done that same, I just was spazzing out . So my wife finally comes home and walks into the bedroom to find me sitting on the edge of the bed, shirtless and as pale as a ghost. She starts freaking out cuz she now sees the big buldge on my back and is asking me what happened. So we called the doctors office hoping that he would have had an answering service with no luck. We both took turns pushing gently on the buldge to see if it were under pressure or not and to see if it was hurting me at all. So the good news was that it felt kind of squishy, and we decided to try and lay down on an ice pack for about an hour to see if it changed it and if it did not we would head to the e.r. So after about an hour the buldge was nearly gone. Before she came home, I was panicing too much to push on it like she did, of course it was not her body so it did not bother her to push on it too much I guess LOL . I went to sleep on a fresh ice pack and awoke the next morning to find the buldge all the way gone, but man I was really scared until she came home, and we still don't know what caused the muscle to buldge out like it did because I am following the doctors orders to the letter, and all I do is sit around and veg out all day long and smoke the occassional cigar

Hey, that must have freaked you out! I can't imagine what the waiting must have been like but I'm glad to hear everything is ok. Like Micah said, I'd still be sure to get it checked out though! Good luck!
Well this happened on Thursday night, and after two rounds of ice treatment the swelling was gone and has not appeared again.I think it happened due to me bending in a direction that I am not allowed to do. I had been playing with my grandson that day,not picking him up or anything since I can't lift anything more than 4 pounds but was still hugging him and tickling him. Denise and I have sat and thought about what might have caused this to happen and that is the only thing out of the ordinary that I did that day. I have a follow up appointment with my doctor on the 29th for some x-rays to see how well things are healing, and if this happens again before then I will surely call him to see what is going on with my back. If not I will just discuss it with him during my appointment since it is only a little more than a week away. They have me using this device called a "bone growt stimulator" and it is supposed to speed up the healing process. I have a plate and screws in my neck already and it took quite a while for the bones to heal there with no "equippment" to aide the healing process. We are hoping that my back heals alot quicker and easier than my neck did. I have to wear this dang back brace every time I am not lying down, which I do religiously, but I would love to go without it as soon as possible. Before the surgery the docotr told me to be prepared for at least a YEAR of healing time. I sure hope it does not take that long, but if it does oh well. One of the side affects of this surgery is I have lost my appetite. Food has lost it's taste to me. Since my surgery I have lost at least 15-20 pounds. My clothes no longer fit me, and the back brace no longer fits and when I go for my follow up I will have to ask for a smaller sized brace. Oh and one last thing, the morning of my surgery I smoked my very last ciggarette!! WOOHOO!!!
Called the doctor this morning, just in case, and he said that this sort of thing happens all the time. He told me not to worry that it was just a muscle spasm. He said if it had been one of the rods or a piece of one of the cages pushing against my skin, I would have known about it instantly due to the pain involved. So phew what a relief that was to hear
