Nice little tutorial. I would prefer to see some detail on lining it the interior with the sycamore, but it's still a great piece of information. This is a project that sits pretty far down on my list but it's there. This will help me out when I finally find the time.
Thanks your site is nice.
This is what I plan on using most of my time over winter break doing. But i want to make mine more intricate with some hand made half-blind dovetails but that may be too ambitious.
you say commercially-made. Is that to say that there is a better choice?
Sorry I didn't reply sooner but I was out of town. As far as your dovetails go Ben I think they would show what you used to line the inside with on the ends. Same thing if you used a butt joint. You would have to 45 the corners or use end pieces like I did to hide the liners, not saying it would look bad. Or you could fit the liners after you made the box. As far as the Sycamore goes I had it on hand in the shop. Many of the real expensive humidors seem to be lined with Mahogany. I think any of those liners will work well. I just wanted to be different, besides after installing a gel humidifier from CI it works great and holds a steady 70, 71% .
