Hey guys,

I have had only two ocasions to try a cuban and I liked them both. I know that there are some less expensive but still wonderfully flavorful cuban cigars out there and I was wondering which ones are good?

Someone suggested the brands: Quintero, Jose L Piedra, Fonseca, & Guantanamera. But I dont know if he realy knew what he was talking about or not.

I am also wondering what sizes in the cubans tend to smoke the best? I am assuming that I am looking at machine bunched, hand finished, but I dont realy care as long as they smoke well and taste good. looking for that creamy mouth filling smoke.

Thanks Steve,

I was on and posting pretty regularly when I first started here. I realized that I was actually posting too much and decided to take an observers role for a while so as not to become irritating to others. Dont want to over salt the soup so to speak...

I know there is a lot of mistique and whatnot to the whole cuban thing, I love to try different things all the time. I have had some amazing smokes with the unknown and some that couldent even go 4 drags b4 chucking but its all part of the fun and christmas day suprise of it, sometimes you get a sweet gun, sometimes you get a pink and green sweater from aunt madge you want to burn in front of her! I thought that there might be some cheaper cubans out there that might be tasty without the eminance of the expensive labels. The two experiances I had with cubans were a montecristo #2 and a Cohiba they both deffinatly were nice smokes and I enjoyed the flavors. I am never on one side of the spectrum of cigars or the other sometimes mild and creamy, sometimes sweet and peppery, sometimes powerful and spicy, they all have their place and time with me.

As for your top ten, I have only had the Oliva V and it was a fantastic smoke

in "the rest" I have had the punch pita which I assume is same as the uppercut in a different size, I love em!

In the end, I was atempting to see if there was a lower end cuban that was worth purchasing to put some more stock in my humi for regular smoking... the humi is gettin low. I did purchase some puros indios maduro shorts recently for realy cheap, they dont taste that great to me, but for the price I am not bitchin just wont order any again.

I don't advocate breaking laws either, you do make a good point though.

The uppercut sounds interesting, will have to look for one next time I am in the B&M

My go to smoke when outside of the US is the Hoyo De Monterrey Petit Robusto. A less expensive Cuban.

As far as the budget Cuban brands go..... Do Not Bother! They aren't good or even close. The Budget cigar market is better in the USA.

In order to maximize flavor and reduce cost, as with all cigars, try the cigars in the smaller sizes. Do not go too small as they are only approximations of their bigger brethren. I like to smoke Montecristo #4 (best selling Habano in the world) a lot cheaper than a #2!

The petit corona size is a go to for me, regardless of country of origin. Less expensive but as a popular size often quite indicative of the flavor profile. In some cases this size is the best in a range. e.g. Tatuaje Noellas.

Bolivar petit coronas and belicosos finos are my favorite forbidden fruits.  Montecristo and Diplomaticos #4s are pretty good too.  But, I wouldn't risk the legal/financial hassle trying to go mail order for any of the cheap cheap stuff.

One of the all-time great cigars: Partagas Shorts

depending on the source, anywhere from $90 - $140 a box of 25

Diplomaticos #4 are no longer in production, the #3 are about $ 5.50 - $ 6.50 a stick
