I have never been the victim of a violent crime... until now that is...

I stop at the gas station and get something to drink & start heading back home after a long day at the office and 3 hours of laying hardwood flooring for the lounge being built. Tired as heck I get a call from my neighbor that he wants a Redbull, so I bust a U and less than 30 seconds later I'm back in front of gas station... (not at a pumping station may I add, I am facing the front of the gas station parked to the left of the entrance inside)

oh... I got a voicemail, lets check it.. (sitting in my car I dial 1 to access my messages) as I listen to my mother leaving a rather emotional message, regarding a personal matter I begin to get out of my car to start walking inside but I don't, instead I walk to the corner of the gas station to finish leaving a message on her voice mail, the classic tag situation when someone call's and you call them back to also get their voice mail.

So I leave a message... as I am finishing I feel someone behind me and I turn to face them...

There's a rather large Revolver at my stomach at this point and 2 punk kids are demanding something or another but I can't really hear them as I am in a state of paralysis... Is this really happening?

It is, and I better start moving and complying or I'll be all over the place, the bulk of me with a huge bowel sputtering cavity (sorry for the graphic imagery) laying on the floor. Here's the good part of the story.

My phone does not hang up until you press the end button so the entire robbery was caught on audio not just that but they decided to take off in my car as well with my phone in his pocket recording the next 4 and a half minutes of their get away! There is a warrant for the arrest of one of the suspects but the gun man is still at large, we're hoping that one will lead to another once they are caught up with. My car was recovered yesterday and the suspects also left the gun inside the vehicle which hopefully will solidify prosecution.

Needless to say I am alive (Thank God!) They managed to get away with my phone, palm pilot, gold chain and car which had a half filled box of Opus X Coronas, my travel humidor with 15+ cigars, a few plastic cutters & torches. The moral of the story...

BE CAREFUL EVERYWHERE YOU GO!!!

The majority of us live with a sense of security because we have an SUV or live in the Hills etc... Let me clear on what I just said, I do not mean scare anyone or for you to live in fear but as a good friend once told me the line between civility and total anarchy is very thin, be aware of your surroundings stay in sight of others when dealing with money and regardless of where you live don't make the mistake of thinking that it won't happen to you.

Stay Safe and God Bless!

Shervin , I am truly sorry to hear about your experience . Do not let this sway you opion toward your fellow man . The vast majority of people are truly good natured . unfortunately , you ran into that minor few , who just don't care .. The good thing is you are safe .
Just curious , did you get your Opus X's back ? . That would be a tragedy , could you imagine someone using it for a Blundt !!
Far and foremost, thank G*D your safe.
Second, I can't wait for Brian D. to chime in on this one.
THANK GOD you are safe Shervin.

But yes, we all must be aware of our surroundings. In NYC (Hamilton Heights - Washington Heights), there is a rapist on the lose. He's mostly targeting women that are not aware of their surroundings (he also climbed into a victim's window too). In any event, I've seen too many women either drunk or preoccupied with their phones, not aware of what's going on.

My mom always tells me when I go out, look around and be aware.
Thank goodness you're safe.
Thank you all for the kind words. I am lucky as heck to get out of that without a scratch so anything beyond that is a bonus in my opinion. I'm picking up the car in a few hours and I've got my fingers crossed hoping they didn't disturb much particularly the cigars. (That's funny Wedgekev1)

Micah- I hear what your saying I went from disbelief to anger to being thankful which I hope is the tail end of this roller coaster, it's got me thinking about things I never thought I would EVER be thinking about... like buying a gun!

boB- I think it's illegal and I'm no expert on this but I'm almost sure.. to shoot ANYONE in the back, that's begging for the ACLU to come banging on your door with a swarm of media, but I am still considering buying one.

Sandi- that's straight up crazy! I hope they catch the bastard. I learned a big lesson in paying attention to my surroundings and that's exactly why I decided to share it, to remind each other that ANYONE can be next if they are not careful.

I get to pick up my car today, they have got a warrant out for one of the suspects arrest that they received a tip from crime stoppers for and when they are caught I will enjoy watching them go down, it's minimum of 10 years if you pull a gun in Florida so buddy's got some time coming to him.

Again thank you ALL for your kind words, it really is appreciated. I'll keep you posted with any recent developments.
I like how they ( Press ) refer to you as " Alleged Victim " ???? WTF !
Seriously!!! Can I allegedly slap the shit outta the a-hole that thought that crap up? Not only that but it did not happen on Thursday as it states it happened Tuesday at 10:30PM not 2:30OPM, albeit as useful tool as it is to have on your side, the media at times can just do as much harm as good.
Sorry to hear, that's a trip! It's hard to tell what I would do in that situation, piss myself is a definite! Your lucky, and you should feel as such. Very glad nothing happened to you, screw the material things, being able to see tomorrow is what's important. Cheers!
You forgot to mention - get a carry permit and always go armed, especially with all those fine sticks in your car. Never forget you live in a zoo - animals are everywhere.
I'm pleased that so many have already said 'Be aware of your surroundings'. It doesn't matter if you're in a familiar area or not, just get used to doing it as much as you can and after a while it will become habit.

My grandmother, who never drove a car but rode the bus downtown throughout her life once said:

"Well, why wouldn't you look BOTH ways before crossing a one-way street?" Flash forward to last week, me starting to cross a downtown street, looking both ways as granny advised...what do I see but a car coming at a goodly clip the wrong damn way!?

If that makes me paranoid, as a few have suggested over the years, blame it on my upbringing.

Carrying a firearm for self-protection is not for everyone, and just having it without the know-how and willingness to use it isn't sufficient.

JohnLongIsland, were you expecting me to say more, or less, on that last subject?
You hit the nail on the head.
Like John Wayne's character said in "The Shootist," willingness is all you need. Once you have that, the rest will come. Now that you have been victimized, maybe the willingness will come. But, some of us are prey, like some of us are tenants. You don't have to be a predator or a landlord to break out of being forced to play the victim. You just have to decide that this will stop - today.

Just thinking about all those fine sticks that were in your car. . .
