With all the new blends coming out, it seems that the older brands get pushed aside. Of course, there’s always the guy that just smoke one brand/one-size all the time and refuses to try anything else. As you can tell, I’m definitely not that guy.

La Flor Dominicana is a brand that’s been a staple of the “fuller bodied” crowd even before full was in vogue. I remember burning one right after I got back from Iraq in 2006 and it kicked my ass. Of course back then there weren’t that many full bodied smokes, so my normal smokes were medium in strength.

Fast-forward to today and I’ve burned through some cigars that would have blown the top of my head off in 2006, but now full bodied seems to be commonplace. Finding a Cameroon wrapped cigar is a rarity in my humidor. Honestly, how many Cameroons do you have stashed away?

The cigar today is the La Flor Dominicana Cameroon Cabinet #1 which is a 6.5 x 44 Lancero. It’s got a gorgeous chocolate-brown Cameroon Ligero wrapper. The filler is a mix of Nicaraguan and Dominican. It’s solidly rolled with no soft spots.

A lot of narrower ring gauge cigars seem to have a tight draw for the first few minutes. Not this one. The draw is perfect and the smoke billows forth.

The initial notes are very earthy with a touch of coffee. There’s just a hint of spice. The burn is as straight as can be and showed no signs of wavering.

Every now and then there would be a burst of sweet cocoa adding to the flavors. Not an overly complex smoke, but super flavorful. The strength is right at the middle of medium.

It’s also available in a 5 x 50 Robusto and a 6 ¼ x 54 Toro. They retail for about 7-8 bucks a piece, but I was able to grab a 10er for $39. If you’re looking for something different to add to your humidor, I can recommend this without hesitation.

Don't know much about Cameroon but I have always liked the word reminds me of them girl scouts aaahh I digress...cookies that is Macaroons yum! But seriously it is amazing how things change and I have found more and more I am looking for full throttle flavor as opposed to ones that "blow the top of my off" (though if hair were any proof of past explosions I have had my share) again...I digress. I like the change in flavors that Cammies often provide and appreciate them a whole lot more than say a couple years back when I was on the ole CAO Cx2 kick. Nice review Steve...sorry for my rambling I may have sat on something incorrectly last night! ;-)
Nice review, Steve.  I've enjoyed this cigar in the past as well.  I must have been thinking the same thing regarding picking up something old vs. new when at my local shop yesterday, as I picked up the LFD L-400 and the Air Bender Guerrero to put in my rotation this week.  Haven't had either of these in quite a while.
