I am in the process of converting a bedroom into a smoking room. I need suggestions and resources. So far i have a hardwood floor down, and a way to seal the door. I am open to ideas... please help!!!
I spent a fortune adding a porch onto the back of my house. I hired Champion to do it and I'm very satisfied. For ventilation in any weather, I installed a ceiling fan and set it to run so it drew the smoke up towards the ceiling. Above this, in the ceiling, I installed an exhaust fan, which vents the smoke out without letting hot/cold air back in the house. The exhaust fan I used was for a chimney vent fan to vent out any of the gas. It's been working like a charm.
I'd also like to add that I spent 300 bucks on an air filter. Don't waste your money. You need an exhaust fan. If money is tight, buy a section of styrofoam that will fit into an open window. Use a dremel tool circle cutter to cut an appropriate sized hole for whatever fan you have that will fit in the hole and close the window down on the styrofoam. It's not entirely weather proof, but it does the job.
I see you posted this in 2008. Hope you've finished it by now:)
I saw an eisode on "Man Caves" and they added a ventilation system. The cigar room was in the basement and the vents were installed on the ceiling (drop down ceiling). The exhaust vents ran along the ceiling and out the wall of the house. I believe that a ceiling fan similiar to a bathroom fan was included with the system.
If you're interested in the episode, I believe you can find it on the DIY channel (Do It Yourself). It's a US program so you should be able to find it.
I am looking to do a hybrid version of the inline fan idea. However this ducting (6" tube) will be completely separate from the home ducting. The other side of my smoke room wall is the garage so I plan on surface mounting the fan/ducting on the garage wall and then vent to the outside. 1 to muffle the noise and 2 cut down on cold/warm back draft. The room is about 10X10 and I foresee at the most 2-3 guys smoking at a time, most times just me. So my question for those that are more familiar, what would you guess as the needed CFM? I was thinking anything between 350 and 500. Anything larger and I have to go with rigid ducting and I want to avoid that. Appreciate any help
