I just got my new humidor set up. It is a Monolith 1200c. It is a self contained humidor with its own heat, a/c, and humidifier. So far it is the best humidor i have seen.

Nice!!!  I was looking at one of these myself.  Pretty hefty price tag!  You'll have to llet us know how it turns out.

Congratulations! Stephen..

I have been looking at this humidor for the past year and I haven't been able to get anybody's review on it.  I know that it is too early to ask you questions about it since it's only been two days since you purchased this humidor.  After doing some research, it seems to me that his is the best humidor a person can buy  within this price range as it controls both humidity and temperature.

Please please please, keep me updated with your opinion on this humidor as I am reluctant to buying it without an owner's positive feedback.  I also wanted to ask you if this humidor can stock cigar boxes, meaning can the middle drawers can be adjusted or removed so that you can stack up your boxes instead of loose cigars.

I also would like to know how does the humidification process take place in this humidor?  Where do you add water and how ofter do you have to do that.

Regards,

Nameer

Ditto... what Nameer said!

here is some more info on the humidor. The shelves are adjustable and removable. there is a removable tray that is designed to hold single cigars. only the drawers and tray are spanish cedar. so far the temp has been perfect. the humidity has been varing between 60% and 80%. but it is getting more constant. The water tank only holds 3/4 cup distilled water, which is good cause that means no expensive chemicals. The water tank is kinda hard to get to. By that i mean you have to pull out one of the drawers and reach into the bottom back corner to fill it. Best way I have found is to use a funnel or an empty 20oz bottle. The dierctions say to to add 100ml of distilled water to activate it. I have added another 50ml since then. Only problem is that there is no way to know what the water level is. So for now I will keep adding 100ml or 1/2 cup of distilled water once a month until it calmes down. There is a low water sensor so you can know when it is almost out but I don't like waiting til it gets that low.The humidor is heavy around 200 lbs but it slides on the wood floor in my bedroom pretty easy. So far when the humidor gets to hot inside the a/c kicks in and doesn't make a sound, but when the heat side kicks in it makes a low almost silent hum or buzz.  But so far I am very pleased with it. The company I got it from is actually a wine celler company but they are located next to the port where the humidors come into America. They didn't charge for shipping if I preordered which saved me over $300. The total cost was $1700 and that includes shipping. Just drop me a line if you want any more info. Also the humidor is designed to hold 1200 cigars in their boxes. So now all I need is 1200 boxes of cigars and I will be set.

Wow...I am liking this humidor...so you are saying that it has a an A/C and a heater?  I read in some other forums that it only cools and not heats.  This is good news if it does both.  I can see the problem with filling up the water tank as if you had a lot of boxes stacked up at the bottom drawer, it would be a bit of a problem trying to get to tank.  You might want to use a hose with a funnel to get around the boxes.

Stephen, where did you buy it for $1700 with free shipping.  Everywhere I looked, it is selling for $1799.

Please keep us updated with the progress of this humidor and let us know if the humidity stabilizes after few days.  By the way, have you placed a digital hygrometer inside the humidor besides the built-in one for comparison purpose?

Here is a list of my favorite cigars that I would highly recommend if you are thinking of buying boxes:

1. rocky patel olde world reserve maduro.

2. La flore Dominicana Coronado double corona.

3. Rocky Patel vintage 1992.

3. Gurkha grand reserve maduro.

4.  Carlos torano signature.

5.  cohiba siglo V (This one is Cuban, so keep an eye for these when you travel outside the states, I bought 5 of these for $101 when I went to Dominica), it is a nice cigar to keep in your humidor for special occasions.

The above mentioned cigars are my personal favorite and would always have a special place in my humidor especially that Rocky Patel Old World Reserve.

Enjoy your new toy and start working on hunting for these cigar boxes,

Nameer

I have not used a 2nd hydrometer but i think i will get one today and see. The website i got the humidor from is josephandcurtis.com Just tell them I got one from them and they might give you a deal too. But yes it heats and cools. It is pretty much self contained and easy maintance.

Make sure not to buy a Hygrometer that you can not calibrate.  I have the following hygrometer and I have been happy with it so far:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250655289401

Make sure you read the instruction on how to calibrate is before the first time, you use it.

I also went to josephandcurtis.com and they are selling it for $1799, do you think that if I call them, they will give it to me for a different price?

yes they will. the 1799 is the late price but if you preorder for the next shipment then they will discount it. plus if you want to preorder then they will ship for free. they charge 1799 because then everyone preoders and that means less they have to store.

I have had a Monolith 1200c (the new model) for almost 4 weeks. The display still jumps from 85% humidity to 60%. The temperature remains fairly constant (68-69 degrees). I have a digital hygrometer inside the unit and the relative humidity ranges from 66% to 70%, irrespective of what the humidity readout of the unit is.

This is my second unit. The first one was returned since trhe humidity was never constant. It kept jumping from 85% to 50%-completely unnacceptable. Fortunately, the distributor is not to far from my home and I was able to get a replacement with no additio0nal cost.

It appears that there is a serious problem with the digital readout of the humidity display.

I have found that controlling the humidity is best done by slight adjustments to the temperature.

Most of my cigars are Cuban, so it is imperative to control the temperature, lest those nasty tobacco beetles make a meal of the precious contents.

Anyway, since the humidity and temperature have remained under control, I will be keeping the unit, the fact that the readout is funky notwithstanding.

I have not had to add water yet, even trhough we have been experiencing extremel;y dry conditions.

By the way, the unit holds 1200 vitolas, not 1200 boxes.

Is the Humidity control issue still occurring? What does it do? Just bounce around even when it's stable on the digital hygrometer you have inside? Are your cigars staying really nice?

thanks,

jon

Thank you for the review. It has now been a few months, I'd love to hear an update from you.

I am considering the Monolith as where I live it gets fairly hot and dry during the summer months. No problem maintaining the humidity, but temperature control is a serious problem. This unit appears to solve the problem.
