I was very excited to hear that CA has recognized what I've known for years - that nowadays, for any cigar line to really demonstrate that it is a serious line to be reckoned with, you have to have a 6x60 (whether you want to call it a Gordo or Double Toro or Gigante or a name of your own invention - Brickhouse calls theirs a "Mighty Mighty").

Anyway, here's the CA article: http://www.cigaraficionado.com/Cigar/CA_Features/CA_Feature_Basic_T...

I have long sought out 6 x 60s - just a few years ago there were not that many, but now most lines have one. My favorites include the Oliva Series V Double Toro and the Camacho LegendArio Bertha. I also like the Padilla Cazadores Toro Gordo and the Puros Indios Gordo. In the early days two of the only ones I could find were the LGC Serie R #6 and the CAO Brazilia Amazon - haven't had either one in quite a while, so I need to smoke some of those soon! Several years ago I started compiling a list of all the different 6x60s and I got up to about 35 different ones. By now I'm sure if I had kept that list up to date, it would be 2 to 3 times that size.

Why do I like them? They smoke cool, rarely go out, and just feel right to me. And the complexity of flavor you can get in a binder that thick is unmatched to me.

6 x 60 - the new classic size!

[Churchill - your grandfather's classic size...]
Oh for sure, the time is an issue. I'm a slow smoker anyway, so I usually need at least 2 hours to get through anything. So why not go that extra mile and smoke a 6x60 and be in cigar heaven for a full 3 hours? Of course, that makes trying a new 6x60 a little riskier than trying a new robusto, for example. If I don't like a cigar and it take 3 hours to get through it, then that may be a very unhappy evening or afternoon.

But I haven't found too many I haven't liked - I would say the usual fault (when there is something wrong) with a cigar this size is a tight draw. But again, now that everyone is making them, they seem to have figured out how to make a cigar that size and still have it draw well. In the old days I used to suck my brains out to get some smoke from an Amazon. Not so, anymore! For ex., I had a Padilla Cazadores two nights ago that drew like a dream. Very little effort required to get big clouds of yummy smoke!
panatelas, lonsdales, coronas
Try to "limit" myself to ring gauges between about 48 and 60 or so. Other than the NUbs (which seem to be engineered to give you an hour smoke, somehow) I like my stogies to be 5" or longer.

Oh, this is off topic but I rarely choose box-press in any size, becauseof my round shaped mouth. .

--Brian, who likes to leave his options sorta open.
The box pressed sticks are great for holding between your teeth though. I know it's a "nasty habit", but it helps when you write and smoke :)

I too favor the "bigger is better" policy, but since I sometimes don't have 2 hours for a smoke, I always keep some smaller ones in reserve. I have become a very slow smoker. A few years ago I used to suck 'em up in no time. Now I smoke a Robusto for 90 minutes or more if nobody pushes me.

But yes, Toro is always a great choice, Churchills too and the 6x60 is getting more and more love from me too.
What JLI said and I'll add Robusto's too. I have nothing against someone who want's to smoke a 60 ring, but I get no enjoyment out of it. A 50-52 is the largest I go unless it's something real special and most of the one I find are 48-50 ring or less.
brian and flaco are denying themselves the pleasure that padron '64's, 26's and annis have to offer. what's up with that?
If you live to be 99, I hope I get invited to the party!

(ps, I won't be much younger than 99 myself by that point...)
no cheating, the bets are of till we hit a hundred...
Well, my dad has made it to 80 - one of his sisters got to 83 - so with luck I may make it that far, maybe a little further.
There's enough money to pay for us, dood. It's your kids who won't get any. They'll be paying for your retirement. You may as well just get it from them right now. When they ask for beer money tell them you're keeping it for retirement.
Said that I rarely choose a box-press, not "never". Does this constitute talking out both "sides" of my mouth? ;) But as good as the Padron '26 is, it would be better if it was round!
