Quad State Herf IV - Feb 7, 2009. It's official, the date is set!!!!

I sat down with Glynna Schlesinger and we have officially locked in the date. The event will be the 7th of Feb, 2009 from 1400 (2pm) until.......

Below is the basic info in reference to location, etc.:

Location: Schlesingers Steakhouse & Cigar Bar (Hudson Valley Cigars), 475 Temple Hill Rd, New Windsor, NY 12553
845-561-1762

http://www.schlesingerssteakhouse.com/

http://www.hudsonvalleycigars.com/

I wanted to get the initial post done so the ones far away can start to look at airline prices and hotel costs. Also, if this will help in scheduling vacation days in need be. As we move along, I will update this thread with the Guest and Sponsors. This year, the monies that we raise from the raffles will be donated to the local Warrior Transition Unit (WTU / SFAC). The WTU is the organization that takes care of wounded soldiers, sailors and airmen awaiting futher processing / discharge. Here are a couple of links to give you a better idea of what the WTU is:

I discussed it with Glynna and as it was last year, Schlesingers can accomodate roughly 135 guests between the store, bar and heated tent that will be erected for the herf. So the fun begins.......

always a lot of fun http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9zZ5QrQu-WE a view of my big back 3:03
Well, we have the Herf listed on a number of cigar boards and in less than 2 day, we already have approximately 75 guests that signed up. I will update this thread roughly once the week here with Guest & Sponsors and here's the link from www.cigarpass.com where I will update it daily if needed:

http://www.cigarpass.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=51049&st=0#...

You can post there over here on this thread and I'll add you to the guest list as well.......

Charlie
Just to update everyone, things are rolling right along as expected. The Guest / Sponsorship list is updated as of this morning over at Cigar Pass (HERFS - Cigar Party's, Events & Get Togethers) http://www.cigarpass.com/forums/inde...howtopic=51049 . Also, I've talked with the WTU folks and they are very appreciative that they are the beneficiary of the event. The West Point Garrison Commander will most likely attend the Herf and a formal invitation will go out to the West Point Superintendent http://www.usma.edu/Superintendent/ along with the Commandant of Cadets http://www.usma.edu/USCC/comscorner.htm. If you cannot attend and would like to help out with this great cause, just send me an email to stogieman@military.com. I hope everyone has a super Sunday and enjoys a favorite or two........ :D
Well, we have discussed the idea of a $20 Ticket for a Goodie Bag with a number of folks and this is what we have come up with:
$20 a person paid by check or money order NLT than the 31 of January made out to the charity. If you don't already have my addy, send me an email / message and I'll furnish it for you. If you go to www.cigarpass.com, my addy is up to date there as well.

If you are the sponsor who signed up for the event, it is your responsibilty to to get the payment to me and not your guests.
For instance, George (Tazman) signed up himself and 9 guests, he will be required to send me a check or money order for $200. For $20, you will get a goodie bag and a raffle ticket for a chance to win one of the grand prizes. Another advantage for the sponsor to ensure payment is when you get to the event, I will hand the sponsor his goodie bag and ticket along with his guests goodie bags and tickets.

The charity is the WTU and you can make out the checks to: IMWRF which stands for Installation Morale, Welfare and Recreation Fund.

There will be roughly 25 to 30 grand prizes as there were last year. We will be selling additional raffle tickets at the event and as last year, they will be 1 for $5, 5 for $20 and 15 for $50.

I think it will work nicely and I'm sure that everything will run smoothly as well........
Just wanted to let everyone know that things are moving right along with Sponsors signing up and quests checks are coming in. The head count is at 112 guests as we speak plus a handful of folks from West Point that will represent the WTU / SFAC. Here is the link to the most updated list over at Cigar Pass:

http://www.cigarpass.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=51049

There are still a number of regulars from the local area that we haven't heard from as well as our S / BOTL that could use a break and attend a Herf.........

Charlie
Good morning all, I just did a rough head count and we have 130 guests planning on attending on the list, another 10 regulars from our Thusday night gang from Schlesingers and the folks from West Point that will benifit from the event.
We are planning on having the heated fest tent again adjecent to the bar area so there should be plenty of room for all. All in all, things are moving right along even in these tough times the US is going through. I hope everyone has a happy holiday season and I'll see everyone in about 6 weeks if not sooner.......

Charlie
Good morning S / BOTL, I hope all of you had a great New Years celibration and are still enjoying the remainder of the holiday season. I just wanted to let everyone know that the locomotive is running at top speed with the guest list getting close to be maxxed out, the sponsors are coming on line and the guests checks are coming in steadily. We are exactly 5 weeks until the Herf and I can hardly wait. Have a great weekend all and I'll talk with you soon........

For those of you that still need to send in your checks / money orders, please make them out to: IMWRF which stands for Installation Morale, Welfare and Recreation Fund.

You can mail them to me and I'll do a weekly consolidation and drop them off to the WTU money folks. My contact info:

Charlie Baranyai
129 Main St
Unit C-12
Cornwall, NY 12518
For those of you that have not sent in your checks / money orders, I just received an email from April Moncrief (Director of the SFAC). She asked me to let everyone know that hasn't sent in a check as of yet to make them out to:

Army Soldier & Family Readiness Donations SM NAFI

That is a direct account set up with them so the internal folks won't have to transfer funds within. There is no problem if you have already sent in a check or there is one in the mail. they can still take care of them. This will make it easier for them and cut out a step in accounting. Thanks a lot and I hope there's no confusion......

Here's a little information as to what the benifit actually is and does:

Donations to Soldier and Family Assistance Centers

The mission of Soldier and Family Assistance Centers (SFAC) is to support Warrior in Transition Units (WTU) by providing services and information to Wounded Warriors and their Families. Donations for the SFAC can now be accepted into a Supplemental Mission (SM) Fund. The Army Soldier and Family Readiness Donations Supplemental Mission Nonappropriated Fund Instrumentality (NAFI) was established at Headquarters, Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation Command (HQ, FMWRC) for this purpose. The Army Soldier and Family Readiness Donations SM NAFI serves as a depository for monetary (checks and money orders) gifts/donations. These funds are used to provide quality of life services, items and supplies in support of the Warriors in Transition and their Families, and for which appropriated funds are not authorized. Some examples of what donations may purchase include: snacks and refreshments in the SFAC; lodging expenses for Family members not authorized Invitational Travel Orders; and special events to foster Soldier and Family cohesion and morale.
Hello everyone, I wanted to updated you guys as to where we are at. Currently, we have 140 guests signed up and I'm going to close the sign up list off. With the regulars from the Thursday evening crew, a few special guests and a the folks from West Point, we will be at 150 guests with no problem at all. The Sponsor List is updated and is coming along very nicely and checks continue to come in as we speak.

We are a;so planning on having a visit of the new Orange County Choppers Headquarters earlier in the day for those of you that would like to attend. Chris (Diesel Grinch) has made an initial contact with them but if there are any of you that are friends of the family, please let us know so we can have a better visit. Here is the link that is going on about it at Cigar Snobs, chime in there or continue the conversation here about it. If you would like, contact Chris and discuss it with him via PM.

Lastly, Larry (Atlasm) is trying to lock in a ride from NYC to the event and if there is anyone of you that can take care of that for me, that would be highly appreciated. I hope all of you have a great weekend and I'll talk with you soon.........

Charlie
Good morning all, I wanted to post the charity who to make the check out to as I get one or two PMs a day inquiring about it which is no problem. Please make the out to:

Army Soldier & Family Readiness Donations SM NAFI.

Send it to me as I am consolidating them and doing a weekly drop off to the money ladies at the Warrior Transition Unit. Here is my address for your use:

Charlie
Less than 3 weeks and we'll be Herfin', yeah baby....... :->

Charlie
Well, we are exactly two weeks away from the Quad State Herf IV and there are still a few of you out there that I haven't heard from since you signed up. If your name is on the list and you can not attend, let me know so the ones on the Standby List can be moved over to the Guest List. I will be posting a few administrative messages next week so standby for those to come as well. If you haven't sent in your donation as of yet, you have till next Friday so that'll be one less thing I have to take care of the day of the event. I hope you all have a great day and I'll see you all in 2 weeks....... :-)
