I was so shocked and dismayed to hear earlier today that Amy Winehouse, the British soul-jazz singer, has died.  It was obvious for years that she was not long for this world, with her penchant for self-destructive behavior, but her talent was enormous and I have enjoyed her music from the start!  To me she is one of the most original and compelling musicians in the popular music realm to come along in quite a long time.  So her downward spiral and now death leaves a big hole in the music world.

I was amused to hear last spring that she and her on-again, off-again beau were holidaying in Cuba and had taken up smoking cigars.  Apparently it was part of an effort at normality, but of course they were on the skids again before long... I hope she is in a better place, because on this plain, she just couldn't find any peace from the looks of things.

Karl? (Just had to start my reply like that. ;)  ) How could you have been shocked by this turn of events, Karl?

Frickin'-A-Right!  As pathetic as she has been her entire adult life, she shouldn't even rank a headline next to those poor souls in Norway.

Amy Winehouse died... big woop.  I can't believe anyone can still use the word "shocked" when talking about this.  Pathetic and what a waste.

It's sad to hear about any life lost even if they did it to themselves. She was indeed talented and she could have done so much more. I would not call it tragic.

The events in Norway are a tragedy. Each life is a story and you should never stop a story short.
