I come from Minnesota - the land of 10,000 taxes and even more laws. Going on a Disney Cruise in December and although I assume I can smoke on the boat, I'm wondering what the restrictions are as to where I can smoke. Also I'm wondering if they sell smokes or if they even allow you to bring your own onboard - especially ones that might be illegal in the US. We'll be in the Caribbean and I'm not sure what nations laws we'll be under if any but I've heard you're not allowed to carry on your own booze so I'm concerned about cigars also. Anyone know the rules/laws?

Smoking/Non-Smoking Policy
For the comfort and enjoyment of our Guests, Disney Magic® and Disney Wonder® have been primarily designated as non-smoking ships. However, it is recognized that some of our Guests smoke. To provide an onboard atmosphere that also satisfies smokers, designated smoking areas include many of the lounges, portions of open-air decks and private verandahs. Disney Cruise Line requests that all Guests observe the non-smoking areas and refrain from smoking pipes and/or cigars in any of the public areas. These requests are to provide a comfortable shipboard living atmosphere for everyone.
Wow, so you pay thousands of dollars and they won't let you smoke a cigar??? Sorry, but if I paid that much, I WOULD BE SMOKING MY CIGARS....regardless of the rules.

Hell, just bribe the captain with a few choice cigars and you'll probably be able to smoke wherever... (^_^ )
What about Royal Caribean or Carnival?
You can smoke cigars on Carnival. That's one reason we cruise with Carnival. Check out my most recent cruise on Carnival; http://tinytimblog.blogspot.com/search?q=cruise+2008
Princess has a cigar lounge called the Speakeasy as a part of the casino. It's a small very comfortable area with a wide screen tv and it's own waiter who will not only get your drinks but sell you a cigar. Formal nights are the only nights when you can't smoke in the casino with the exception of the cigar lounge.
I cruise primarily on Holland America. They allow smoking on the outside decks and I also smoke on my cabin balcony. There isn't a great sellection of smokes sold on board so I usually bring my own along with purchasing some ISOM's on shore. Need to be careful when purchasing in the Caribbean as there are a lot of fakes. St. Maarten has a good shop w/selection if I remember correctly. A few other places too (Aruba - LCDH). Will be going on a 2 week cruse over Xmas/New Years down there so I'll check it out again....
No problem smoking - there were smoking sections on the ship decks. No problem bringing in booze either. They saw it in my bags and let it pass.
I went on a Cruise and found there is a wide spectrum in the smoking rules regarding cruise lines.
I started a website for cigars smokers to find a place to smoke and I included a link for cruise lines. I haven't updated it lately so you 'll probably want to visit their smoking policy page.
Take care and enjoy your next cruise...
Oops forgot to add the URL, www.cigarshopfinder.com
I'm on the HAL Maasdam as we speak. Certain lounges allow cigarette smoking. Pipes & cigars on outside decks only. Been smoking on my Veranda balcony. Brought my own CR and a case of wine on board to drink. No problems...
Ooohhh, I know all about this. I can tell you which ships have cigar bars vs. lounges. What the official rules are vs. how hey are applied on the ship. Why I know this is I'm an avid smoker of cigars and a Cruise Specialist.

Scanning the answers, everybody is right. Generally, Outside on one side of the ship and at one or two bars. Some cruise line allow you to smoke on balconies, some don't. Here are some specifics:

On Royal Caribbean Voyager and Freedom class ships there is a Cigar Lounge.
Holland has a lounge on just 4 of their ships, but has "Cigars under the Stars". It's outside at one of the pool bars.
Carnival has Cigar Bars
Princess and Norwegian have "Cigar Lounges" on some of their newer ships, but they are fairly small.

The key to cigar smoking on a Cruise Ship, be aware of your surroundings. The rules about bringing booze aboard is generally no. I will not advise you how to smuggle liquor aboard. (publicly)

By the way I host a "Herf at Sea" twice a year www.cigarcruises.net
Great info - thanks everyone.
