What an engaging christian debate they brought us! This country was founded by deists. They believed in a god but were not for the most part christians. 2012 now we contend in a theocratic fundamentalist arena.
Maybe we should re-think this. Go back to principles our forebears valued and not listen to the fundamentalists. Then again wouldn't it be so much more fun to have crusade?
Losers.

Permalink Reply by Hugh Jass Waste of Time on September 5, 2012 at 8:05pm Crusades are how you "fire up the Base", so that you and your cronies get to suckle at the public teat. Crusades against smoking, the rich, labor unions, and even crusades against crusaders all serve the purpose to whip the public into a rabid froth ahead of voting day. That's why there's precious little rational discourse and more emotional finger-pointing these days. I'm pretty much done with all of them, really. No one has the fortitude to tell the middle class that our current situation is the bed that we've made.
Off shoring jobs? If you've shopped at any of the big-box stores in the last 20 years, then you've helped put your neighbor on the unemployment line. When you bought that $10 pair of Chinese-made sneakers, you didn't care much for paying triple for an American made unit.
Labor unions and government also had a hand in making production costs more expensive, sometimes in needed ways, but also in unneeded ways as well. Yes, we have probably the safest and most well-paid workers on the planet, but we won't pay to have them work.
Mortgage underwater? Home buyers, banks and municipalities have been artificially inflating home values for decades. We all had a hand in it,. Home buyers constantly taking out home equity loans, buying houses bigger than we really need, and being optimistic (to the point of stupidity) about how much debt we could afford to take on. Banks want to make money on the loans, so they are quite content to take your money when jumping off a cliff. Municipalities keep property valuations creeping up so the mayor can have more money without officially raising the tax rates.
Government debt a problem? Well, how about getting everyone to pay taxes, not have 1/2 the country freeload while expecting the upper half to foot the bill for everything the lower half wants. Reform the tax code, by all means, and make it fair, but how about balancing the friggin' budget? The only way to do that is to get both sides to compromise; tax payers pay a little more, and tax receivers take a little less. It's not rocket science, but political science defies all the laws of reality.
For the main political parties, I say: A plague on both your houses!!

I do not not feel a need to address any!
Let others spill their discontent, let them spew their bile.
Then let the discussion begin! If we are good for anything we are good for contentious discussion!
Hey MMK reopen your thread.

Permalink Reply by mmk ~ on September 5, 2012 at 8:54pm is spewing bile the same as projectile vomiting?

Permalink Reply by Limey B'stard on September 5, 2012 at 9:00pm Well in my interpretation it requires some command of the English language however yes I do believe you are correct.
Spew as much bile as you have friend. I won't like, it but "now is the winter of out discontent" it is time for strong discussion. I feel very strongly that our petty foolishness now has a purpose!

Is this like the 'Queen's English'?
or this bastardized version us 'yanks modified to fit our needs?
as far as "now is the winter of out discontent" ~ my interpretation is one of total divisiveness. You made a comment for me to read and understand facts. Likewise JB told me to "turn off the mass-media, and relax a bit." What about the 'masses' of American Voters that are subjected by mass-media spewing vile-bile bullshit? These are the people, who 'if' they get off their dead-asses and vote will make a difference! scary shit
Americans are lazy. Reading and Math are hard. It actually takes effort to formulate thought. You see, in America - we actually like getting entertainment in our news broadcast. It's much easier to turn on FOX News and agree ~ blindly, without any thought process involved. Likewise - some sit back and vegetate watching CNN's views with a blind faith.
And we expect the same out of our elected officials. We want a bloodbath ~ we want cut and dried, we want black & white. IT IS NOT in our current nature to compromise. Compromise = weakness in the American Political Arena. I do believe that some 'try' to gather support and work through issues, but NEVER compromise. That is the most frustrating thing for me to grasp. How can this Country expect to accomplish anything?
