What have you run across that reminded you of chocolate which was not chocolate? There are those who make the claim to taste like chocolate. For example, some people note in certain cigars a chocolatey flavor (I haven't yet had that experience myself). And of course there is Young's Double Chocolate Stout, which has that kind of flavor even though it contains no cocoa.
Well, there's the Javas by Drew Estate, they smell wonderful and I can taste the chocolate but Ditch Digger can't. Might have to look for the double chocolate stout.
I've only smoked the Toro size among the Javas, and my take on that was that while the wrapper initially had a chocolatey flavor to it, smoking it did not taste chocolatey, just a generic cigar/tobacco flavor.
I've heard that the Waves, with the low ratio of filler to wrapper, has much more of a chocolate presence to the flavor.
I love a nice rich dark beer, and Young's is probably the most pleasant among the chocolate stouts. Let me know what you think when you try it!
Naturals by Drew Estate, the 'Dirt' cigar is nice and chocolatey, like the wrapper is dusted with cocoa powder. There are many maduro-wrapper cigars with a chocolate component to their flavors, like Perdomo ESV '91 maduro, Avo 787 and Avo No. 2 maduro, and Camacho Corojo maduro (my favorite).
I'm putting the Perdomo ESV and the Avos on my list to try, St. JB. Thanks for the tip!
And btw, I would add to the list of cigars that don't actually have chocolate or cocoa added, the Nub Habano. Among the flavors that emerges about midway is a distinct cocoa/mocha flavor. Very nice.
Yeah, yeah. It is, I've had way to many people recommending cigars this last weekend, it'll take me months to catch up!! And the Nubs are at the top of the list, but there's a few for monthly herfs I need to pick up too. Mostly just teasing you anyway. BTW, where're those pics from the renn fest? ^_^
I haven't gotten the pics from my friends yet, and I didn't really take any. My friends are in the middle of moving, so it may be a week or two before I hear from them. They are a little overwhelmed and out of their minds right now. I'm amazed that they got through the Ren. Fest weekend without their heads exploding, considering all they have going on in their lives.
Speaking of which: don't let this mammoth list of suggestions make your head explode. They are only that - suggestions - and no need to pressure yourself about it. In time, you'll find lots of good cigars that you like. There is no portion of the cigar experience that should be rushed. It's all about chillin'!
I get overwhelmed looking at your reading list, and seeing all your varied interests! It makes me feel like I have a lot of catching up to do!!!!
Hahahaahhaaa!! Well, you have to remember that I was a stay at home mom for three years and for almost 2 years of that, Ben was going to college and working a full-time job, so he was gone from 5 in the morning until 11:30 at night. Oh yeah, and I have insomnia, so I read a lot when I can't sleep.
Well, most of my list of things to try, I will wait to pass judgement on until I'm actually in the store. First I have to hope I can FIND them! Haha!
