I was talking with a few new members of our club today, my first goal when welcoming any new member is to find out what they do for a living. This group happen to be in the Insurance business and just opened a new agency in the local area. The conversation then went into how much they planned on enjoying their new cigar lounge and how they had been worried that they would have to endure hanging out in the sports bars.Without offending any of our SC members, I have to say I agreed with their point of view and not just because I'm the membership director, because that is how I truly feel about the subject. Some might think that the sports bar is a great hang out to enjoy a cigar, get a beer, watch some ESPN and talk with their buddies, and that is great" for them", not all cigar smokers feel that way. I myself enjoy a quieter and more prestigious atmosphere, Money Talk on the HDTV, and great conversation regarding something more than just last night's scoreboard or the new Ford 250, not to say that I couldn't find that in a sports bar, but it is called a sports bar for a reason.

So I ask you, what is your favorite? Blue jeans, beer and the game or high back leather smoking chairs, 25 yr.old scotch, and wall street talk.

I also would like to know if you think that all the new no smoking laws will begin to make cigar clubs trendy again like in the 90's.

Speaking for myself only...the answer to your question is 'YES'. Indecisive you say? No, not really. Depending on my mood and the company I'm with, one setting is more appropriate than the other. However, the majority of the time I indulge myself and enjoy a good glass of Scotch or Bourbon or even Navan when I'm listening to music or reading a good book.

As for Tony's question I really don't know but I wish there were more cigar bars/clubs around my area. Frankly I don't care for cigarette smoke but a good cigar or pipe aroma is delectable.

If you enjoy good scotch or bourbon the best place for that is in a cigar bar. The majority of sports bars carry some lower shelf liquor and you can find a selection of J. Walker but nothing to write home about. I just added a 40yr old scotch and a bottle of rare King George V to our bar for my members. If you get a chance to visit Myrtle beach stop in for a glass and that will be something you can write about.

I agree with your assesment of sports bars. Like I said I wish there was something good/better in my area. Allow me to say that I now have a reason to visit Myrtle beach for a glass of King George V and you. ;-)

Well I look forward to your visit, however you better make it quick because the gentlemen in our club always drink the most expensive first the stuff their wives won't let them buy and that bottle won't last long.

Unfortunately I'll have to get a rain check on that bottle. I'm stuck in Watertown, NY until the end of May. ;-( I'll remember the name and get it soon though. ;-)

Okay looks like I need to learn about scotch. I can both ways, if I want to yell at Hockey (Go Devils and Ducks) sports bar. But if I want to enjoy the company conversation, and my cigar cigar lounge in a heart beat. Which is why I say who's going to teach me about scotch, becauase unfortunaely I'd be the girl sneaking beer into a wine glass. Does it have to be scotch.

Hugs,
Me

Sometimes I like bluejeans, a leather chair, Scotch and sports. It just depends. Sometimes I want to yell at the Ducks or the Rangers or the Av's. Sometimes I just want to sit in the quiet and contemplate. Sometimes I want conversation. Beer is good. Wine is good. I like scotch, top end tequila, bourbon, Irish whiskey. Depends on what I want at the time. It's just not a black and white question. There's too much gray area there for most of us to answer that one.

BTW: DeeDee, I'd love to talk Scotch with you. It's a wonderful arena to get into and so many out there you're bound to find something to enjoy.

I love my jeans, flor de cana rum and the sports bar (it's baseball season so I have to watch the yankees). The Cigar Inn is a nice lounge and some of the guys will offer you adult beverages, but I rather go to Ricardos Steakhouse (around the corner from my house), where I can sit at the bar, mingle with the chefs and watch the game. Yeah, I know, I can't smoke at Ricardos (where in NY can you smoke), but I can at least watch the game and maybe get a guy (other than the bf) to buy me a drink or two.

I'm not into the wall street or law firm talk and rather just talk about whatever comes to mind. I never understood the concept of leaving the office, only to go out to dinner or a bar to continue to talk about the office. For that, you might as well have stayed at the office.
