Film Noir Anyone?

"Double Indemnity" is an amazing film. Heck, who knew Fred MacMurray had such a dark side? I always remember him from "My Three Sons" (haha).

That said, my two favorite Film Noir picks would be "The Maltese Falcon" (an obvious pick) and "Touch of Evil".

I have never really thought of that one, maybe I should take some time and find one to watch. What channel are they on, I don't think BlockBuster carries them.

Tony, I noticed in Barnes & Noble's dvd area that there are a couple of boxed sets of Film Noirs that look pretty cool. Hopefully, places like Blockbusters have picked these up - if they haven't, pester your Blockbuster until they do! With all their lurid atmosphere and suspense and exploration of the dark side of human nature, film noirs are well worth checking out.

I put in my vote for Touch of evil. Just watched it again the other day. Can't get enough of that one!

Nothing special, but it's really fun to shoot this stuff!

Just out of curiosity...does anyone have a favorite Neo-Noir movie? Dark city is amazing, but I have a long standing argument with a freind that Fight Club is a Neo-Noir. (He claims that since it is not a "Crime" movie....It can't be a Noir.)

I wouldn't think of Fight Club as neo-Noir - the ones I think of are more like Sea of Love, The Big Easy and L.A. Confidential. Movies like Fight Club and Crash (and anything else with James Spader or Edward Norton) have their own category I think - like neo-Demented (and I say that not as a knock, but totally with great affection and interest in such flicks).

The Postman Always Rings Twice is pretty cool. Pretty much any of the dramatizations of stories by James M. Cain are near the top of the genre.
