Well, I still have a lot to learn about Scotch, but I have tried about 15 different types, all from different regions of Scotland, all single malt. I prefer a Single Malt, although I like blends, my taste buds tend to lean toward the single malts. My favorite Scotch's all come from the island of Islay. They just seem to make a strong, smoky, peaty Scotch. As I tend to describe it to my friends who don't care for any sort of whiskey, it's like drinking a camp fire, even with the burn to prove it. My favorite thus far would have to be the 16yr aged Lagavulin, followed by the 10yr Laphroaig, and the Laphroaig Quarter Cask. For my daily, i like a glass of 'Island of Geese', it's not quite as strong as the others, but still has a pronounced flavor. I have recently tried a 21 yr aged Glenlivet aged in Rum Casks. It was very smooth and had a sweet finish, very good for after dinner or even after dessert.

So, enough about my preference, what Scotch(s) do you prefer?

Lagavulin and Laphroaig are two of my favorites. If you can get your hands on Lagavulin 16 Distiller's edition I suggest that you grab a bottle. The Distiller's Edition is Lagavulin 16 that is placed in a Cherry Oak cask for another two years. One of the best Islay island scotch's that I have ever had.
I quite like Johnny Walker Green. I enjoy it for it's complexity. Though I think single malts are fine beverages, I enjoy my scotch much like i enjoy my cigars: I like layers of flavors each with their own distinct character but complimenting each other all the same. Blue and gold Johnny are fine but they really feel one note to me.
Chivas Regal is my choice. A perfect pair with most cigars or great alone. I also enjoy Macallan 18.
My two faves right now are Balvenie 21 Port Wood and Glenlivet 21.
Of course, those are a little too expensive for daily drinking. On a daily basis, Macallan 12 or Balvenie 15 do just fine.

I'm also a fan of Talisker and Oban.
Although I find that too much peat doesn't mix well with a cigar... at least on my palette.
My favorite would have to be the Macallan Cast Strength. It has all the beautiful wood flavor of a fine single malt with the great burn of 116 proof alcohol.
Chivas Regal for me
Johnnie Walker Black sometimes, Speyburn 10 and Glenfiddich 15 other times. I really need to branch out. Reading the posts, I'll have to try the Dalmore Cigar Malt and Balvenie Doublewood. It's really hard to be cheap when you have expensive tastes.
Wow, I'm halfway through my first taste of the Doublewood and it is outstanding. Merry Christmas to me!
Chivas is my favorite.
Cheers!
It has been awhile since my last entry and I have enjoyed a many great Scotches since. I have been preparing our business plan for the new venture in Charleston and here is a little sample of what we will be offering.

Aberlour a'bunadh : this dark and luxurious post-prandial whisky is impressive.

Glenfarclas 25 Year Old : Amber rich color with aromas of orange marmalade, honey, coffee, sherry and nuttiness.

Benriach 21 Year Old : cookie-like with a sweet and easy-going taste, although heavily peated.

Bruichladdich 34 Year Old Legacy #6 : creamy vanilla, banana, caramel, almonds round off a master of blended tastes.

That is just a sample of our top shelf, more to follow...
