New to the site, Cypress/Houston by residence...love to hear from anyone in the local area looking to arrange herfs....also have cigars for sale...mostly multiples that I own, but promise to put retail prices to shame (from my own personal collection).

Restoring Dry Cigars

This happens to all cigar smokers eventually, some of your cigars dry out for what ever reason! So, what to do? Toss them out? Or try to fix them? If you chose the latter here are some instructions on how to gradually bring a dried out cigar back to life. Dried out cigars require special precautions.

First and foremost, NEVER place a dried out cigar in a humidor that is at 70 relative humidity (RH). The dried out cigars wrapper will expand and crack, ruining the cigar. To prevent this you must re-hydrate your cigar very slowly. We suggest that you do this with a electronic humidifier such as the Cigar Oasis or the Hydra. Here are the steps to take:

* Seal 2-3 dried out cigars in a zip lock baggy along with a digital hygrometer or a calibrated analog hygrometer. Let it stand for 24 hours.
* After 24 hours, check the reading on the hygrometer. This is the relative humidity at which these cigars are resting at.
* Take any cigars out of your already seasoned humidor that is roughly reading at 70RH and open the lid and let it dry out for a few hours. Or you can use a separate humidor for re-storing your dried out cigars. After a few hours, place a digital hygrometer or a calibrated analog hygrometer in the humidor and close the lid for a few hours. Check the internal reading of the hygrometer and if it is close to the "resting RH" of your dried out cigars, then place the dried out cigars in the humidor. Install the electronic humidifier in the humidor and adjust the humidity level to be approximately 5% higher than the resting RH of your cigars.
* Close the lid and leave cigars alone for about a week.
* Keep repeating this process over the course of a month or two until you reach 70RH.
* Once 70RH is achieved, you can place them in your regular or already seasoned humidor and let them rest there for another 1-2 months.
* If you have completed all the above steps, you can start enjoying those cigars once again!

I would love to come as well. I am only off on Sunday and Mondays. I would rather it be Austin but they are both (Dallas) about the same distance. Like Barksdale , I am in Southwest Houston
