Hey Tony,

I've tried the following (don't remember the years, but just commenting on the liquor)

Cockspur -JLI introduced me to this rum a few years ago.  I was skeptical at first, but once I tried it, I was hooked.  Really nice rum, and only seen it a few times in NYC.

Brugal Anejo - Not a Brugal fan, I would prefer Barcelo over Brugal, and if there's a 3rd option, I would choose that over both Barcelo and Brugal.

El Dorado - I tried this rum last year and wasn't really fond of it.  I was at Astor Wines & Spirits recently, and they tried to sell me on the great taste of El Dorado.  I politely declined.

Flor de Cana - Use to be my go to rum, but I got a bottle of Ron Zacapa and Zaya, and I haven't thought twice about this rum. Flor de Cana did go well with my cigars.

Bacardi 1873 Solera - I think its public knowledge that I am not a Bacardi fan!  However, I recently tasted Bacardi 8, and I was surprised!  Would I buy a bottle of Bacardi if I had a choice, NO, but if it was between the El Dorado and Bacardi, I would selected the Bacardi.  I haven't had the 1873 Solera, but maybe I'll look for it the next time I go rum shopping.

Don Q Grand - I've never had Don Q, which I think it very strange.  I always think of Don Q being a Bacardi brand (maybe cause they're both from Puerto Rico).  I'll consider this rum too the next time I go rum shopping.

Tell me your thoughts on this rums:

Seven Tiki (spiced rum)

Kraken (spiced rum)

Ron Centenario

Barbancourt

Ron Botran

Ron Abuelo

Cruzan 5 (had it in TN, haven't seen it in NY yet)

Diplomatico

Zafra

Arrrrrrahh,

What be thy bloody bilge water you post, its black strap rum for us runners.

Why just last week while broadsiding HMS Rockaway it dawned on me wee brain to take the lovely lady as my own and empty her cargo of rum before sending her and crew to the bottom

Now I have thy rum and a young lassy on my side she is a wicked one tamed by the black strap.

So put down the society rum and seek ya a bottle of black strap.

Put some fire in ya belly and heat in ya pants.

And what beach might this be? I ask only so I don't go digging holes randomly and accidentally stumble upon your stash. If you could be as detailed as possible about where I shouldn't dig that would be great.

Nothing like good rum. I am probably not up to the really good stuff, I just can't get past all those lovely flavored rums.....

Don't tell noone but I am considering making some rum. I am already a home brewer focusing mostly on cider and mead. It's really just one more step beyond that. Hopefully I can make something worthwhile and drinkable.
