I'm curious what types of wine people are drinking with cigars, any one type of wine varietal go better then most? I am a novice cigar aficionado and curious, but will be getting more into cigars as I go.

What are your thoughts, best brands to try together etc?

I'm a Cabernet Sauvignon drinker so, of course I usually pair this wine with a cigar. I'll have to test out the port wine & let you know what I think!! :-)
I have found Cotes Du Rhone wines pair great with medium/full bodied cigars. I usually drink earthy wines as opposed to sweet wines, but when I do pair sweet wines with cigars it is the type that is sweet because of the residual sugars and not the fruit. Ports pair great with cigars, but I have also had some successful pairings with some Reisling or Albarino.
I totaly agree with what everyone is saying. I enjoy a medium body cigar and find that the blush wines and semi dry white wines compliment each other. The Merlot and cabernets are great with the darker more dry red wines. the same applies with hard liquors. My dad is a scotch drinker ans i can stand scotch however, you give me a darm full body cigar and a glass of scotch and the two are perfect .
MILD CIGAR COPLEX WINE AND VICE VERSA
One of the best combo's I've found is to pair a cab with a fuller bodied maduro. And I've actually found the Yellow Tail Cabernet to be one of the best choices for this. I've tried more expensive and higher rated cab's with some of my maduros but I keep coming back to the Yellow Tail cab. Although I am planning to try out several of the suggestions offered in this thread for other cabs to try my cigars with and I'm sure I'll find many other good suggestions now that I am a member of this group. Thanks everybody.
AGREE I REALLY LIKE CAB WITH MADURO IS ONE OF MY FAVORITOS AND CHARDONNAY AND SUMATRA NARUTAL
I actually prefer a good scotch with my bolder cigars. But a good Cab is always a nice touch. I have found a cheaper Cab Narleyhead that was really nice. Did not over power the Cigars or a Tobin James "FAT BOY"
My favorite red is a Hearty Barolo expensive but great white wines Montrochet or Poulley fusea sorry i cant spell in french to good also love Merlot I only drink Dry wines my daily wine when i run out of mine is Bollo bardolino or valapecello
My favorite is a good port with any kind of cigar, cuban preferred....
Cheers!
