Knock-out Maduros for a washed-out trip

Wilderness Survival Kit

I'm out of here for a few days, a vacation of sorts. I'm taking the family camping, real camping - in a tent with no electricity, no running water, no TV, no internet, and no cell phone service. I call it a vacation, but as most of you know camping can be hard work, especially with kids. It's the end of the day that I'm really looking forward to: a roaring campfire, temperatures in the 60s, a strong drink, and this:…See More

hey, not a dumb question at all. If you're wondering if I'm one of the owners, the answer is: no. But to answer your first question - if I have a stake in the place - the answer is: hell, yes, they put stakes on my plate! I'm the…

Indian, Omar, and El Baton - Part 1

Posted on June 30, 2009 at 10:36pm 2 Comments

Last week I thought I would be reviewing the two maduros shown in the photo at the end of the last post. I only managed to smoke one of those, but two unannounced cigars made it into the rotation. As usual, my week took a few unexpected, but always pleasant turns, and turned out to be as unpredictable as ever.

The early part of the week was business as usual: meetings, e-mails, keg filling, printing craft beer propaganda, and preparing for another weekend of beer events, festivals,… Continue

Indian, Omar, and El Baton - Part 2

Posted on June 30, 2009 at 10:33pm 0 Comments

We were participating in the Indy Brew Ha Ha, a beer festival and fundraiser for the Phoenix Theater on Massachusetts Avenue.

Mass Ave., as it is commonly called, is one of my favorite cultural districts in Indianapolis, home to my favorite Indianapolis pizzeria:… Continue

Indian, Omar, and El Baton - Part 3

Posted on June 30, 2009 at 10:20pm 0 Comments

The temperature outside suddenly began dropping from what must have been record high 90s last week. Considering that I rarely have an opportunity to smoke in the comfort of an air-conditioned environment like Nicky Blaine's in Indianapolis, I thought I should take advantage of the conditions outside tonight. I stopped in the fabled Garage Brewery at the original New Albanian Brewing… Continue
