Thoughts on Cuba and Cuban Cigars, part two

A couple of weeks ago I was in Velvet Cigar Lounge in the East Village. This one guy says, "you know, these days I'm becoming a Cuban snob" (meaning he only wants to smoke Cuban cigars) and a second guy responds, "there are worse things you could do".

Now I know a lot of cigar smokers would nod their heads in agreement with these statements. And if you read Cigar Aficionado, and probably many other publications discussing cigars, you get the impression that the ultimate goal of… Continue

How I started, part two/my more recent experiences with cigars

So in 1991 when I started smoking cigars, the one handmade cigar brand you could find in drugstores, diners and any where else that would have them was Te Amo. How I started, part one...

I had some interest in cigars from the time I was young. It was really the commercials in the 70s that led me to consider trying them myself. Some of my friends started smoking cigarettes, but I couldn't stomach that - my parents both smoked cigarettes and I never liked the smell.

Then there was the Muriel commercials with Susan Anton that really caught my attention. So one afternoon when I was in high school, on my way home from school I stopped at a local pharmacist and got up the… Continue

Night out with friends

This post really relates to last night, but I didn't make it last night for what should be obvious reasons, heh.

Anyway, smoked a few Cubans and drank at the local Irish pub, then headed on over to an excellent Mediterranean restaurant down on the square called The Riad where we spent 2 hours eating baba ghanoush, hummus, and cheese dip with warm pita bread and smoking a hookah (tobacco of course). We made a wonderful discovery in hookah smoking as well. If you replace the water in the… Continue

I got some Hate Mail!

I got this email after posting a review of Padron's website and basically saying it is horribly out of date.

Angry Padron Apologist Wrote:
I think your a bit to harsh on Padron, they have nothing to prove,to you.The
consumer is savy enough and educated to know, what they like and dislike.Padron
has been selling cigars much longer then cigar jack has been around.
