Last night I was out at the bar with a couple of smokes. We can still smoke in Wisconsin bars.... for now. I try to take advantage of it at ever possible opportunity. It was a casual smoke night for me, so I grabbed a couple cigars that have made their presence known in my humidor.

The Emerald is a smoke that I would call my go-to cigar. They are inexpensive and very tasty. I usually have no fewer than 10 in my humidor.

The 5 Vegas has somehow weaseled its way into my humidor because it is included in EVERY SAMPLER PACK EVER MADE EVER!

Smoking the two back to back was astonishing. I smoked the 5 Vegas first and ended up tossing it in the urinal (yeah, I'm that guy) with about 40% of it still left to smoke. Although the burn line is impeccable, I do not enjoy the smoke. At first it was somewhat enjoyable despite a rambunctiously tight draw. About 10 minutes into the smoke somebody sling shotted me back to my 16th birthday where my friend's older brother who worked at Walgreen's stole a pack of Old Dutchman's and Swisher Sweets. The taste it left in my mouth was reminiscent of the bonfire monster taking a flying dump in my mouth. Need I say more?

Chasing the 5 Vegas with the Emerald was a very satisfactory experience. Harsh and almost tannic through the shaggy foot of the cigar and evolving into a very high cocoa count chocolate component. At one point I thought to myself (as surrounding non-cigar smoking twits bitched about the smell) that it tasted like a dark chocolate gravy. The concept of a dark chocolate gravy is not something that I came up with but rather what the cigar told me. Retrohaling left a semi-spicy cedar tingle in my sinuses and was very enjoyable. I occasionally have minor burn problems with the Emerald, but not last night. It is a small price to pay for such an affordable smoke.

El Mejor Emerald wins... FATALITY!

I am by no measure of the imagination condemning the Vegas line. I have heard some very good things about other smokes that they have. What are your experiences with the Vegas series? Have you ever had an Emerald?

I just bought a 5-er of the Knuckles. I will most likely film a video review of it when I smoke the first.

The robustos are amazing as well, though. I found more flavor in them than even the Knuckle. I don't know if it was just a fluke or what, but the robusto is a great size as well.

I have heard way too many good things about the Miami-Knuckle not to try them. A fiver of those is going to be my next purchase.

I've tried the Emerald (toro). I have not had any problems with burn or taste, but I know a few people that have.

I'm one of those people. I saw the ads for them, and they sounded like something I'd like. I got a 5-er from CBid (Toros) and hated them all. It was the flavor, not anything that could be corrected like the burn, construction or anything like that. But hey, flavor is the one subjective part of cigars and you can't please everyone with one blend, right? (^_^ )

The 5 Vegas 'A' are pretty good, kinda mild, but tasty. I haven't tried the Classic but the Miami line is AMAZING. Especially the Knuckle (like a Nub, 4.5x60).

Got it! Yeah, I just reread that. Damn my multi-tasking at work amidst reading SC.

Thanks for the info! I am going to have to try the relic. A cigar described ad a full-frontal assault on the senses and is compared to an Opus X sounds like my type of smoke.
