This is to be sung to the tune of "Going to California" by Led Zepplin. Yes, it is a blatant rip-off

Going to spend my days on a cruise so kind,
Smoke my cigarsand drink fine wine.

Made up my mind to take a new trip,
Going to Barcelona with Euro's in my hip.

Someone told me theres a place out there
With love in the bars and free beer.

Took my chances on a big jet plane,
Treated like cattle all the way.

The sea was blue and the sky was azure,
Wondered how tomorrow could ever follow today.

The Chruches and the Cathedrals were crowded and full
As the tourists on the ships were looking so cool.

Seems that the wrath of the gods
Got a punch on the nose and it started to flow;

I think I might be sinking.
Throw me a line if I reach it in time
Ill meet you up there where the path
Runs straight and high.

To find a country without a king;
They say he plays around with his thing.
La la la la
Ride a white mare in the footsteps of dawn
Tryin to find a woman whos never, never, never been born.
Standing on a hill in my mountain of dreams,
Telling myself its not as hard, hard, hard as it seems.

You can tell those are genuine Cubans because of the directive to supporters of the Revolution: Las Autoridades sanitarias advertien: fuma puede matar, which means "death to the capitalist imperialists and their dogs!" Oops, my Spanish is a little rusty - I think that's actually "death to the capitalist imperialist dogs!"

Seriously, that is cool, Clay! Glad you found some treasures to bring back with you to the New World. Please tell us more about your trip! The Paris Theater, one of NYC's grand old movie houses, is presently showing the documentary about Gaudi made in the 1980s. What did you think of his architecture, the food, the Spanish people, etc.?

It was the last day in Spain, but I found these little gems...

OK, it's my turn to head out of town, in my case, just to Boston up north for a few days. Leaving tonight, back on Sunday afternoon. Singing in the Boston Early Music Festival with my group, the NY Continuo Collective, attending some concerts, going to the Fine Arts Museum, and spending a couple evenings at CigarMasters.

Cool stuff, Clay. Here's what I was singing when I was in Chile (and this is an actual song, from ca. 1900):

When we got round the Horn, my boys, we had some glorious days
And very soon our killick dropped in Valparaiso Bay
The pretty girls came down in flocks, I solemnly declare
They are not like the Plymouth girls, with their long and curly hair.

They love a jolly sailor when he spends his money free
They'll laugh and sing and merry be and have a jovial spree
And when your money is all gone, they'll not on you impose
They are not like the Plymouth girls, that'll pawn and sell your clothes.

Farewell to Valparaiso and farewell for a while
Likewise to all the Spanish girls along the coast of Chile (wicked false rhyme)
And if ever I live to be paid off, I'll sit and sing this song
God bless those pretty Spanish girls that prowl around Cape Horn.
