Well, I have to throw in the towel so to speak. I graduated at the beginning of May 2008 and have now been unemployed since September of 2008. My lease is up at the end of May so I am gonna have to move back in with my parents who live in Grand Rapids, MI
It really makes me sad to leave IL because of the resources, friends, and job possibilities I thought I had. But I am going to have to try my luck and skill in a new state. Plus it will be easier on the bank account. My parents absolutely hate the fact that I smoke cigars, so its going to be really hard to enjoy myself outside with a cigar this summer without having someone complain to me, heck, even my brother hates it too. Its going to be trying times. . . .

I am really bummed too cause there really isnt a very good B&M near the location that I am moving to. There is one, but I like to have several places to choose from (maybe I am just picky like that). Anyone who lives in MI, particularly the Grand Rapids area if you could point me in the direction of a few I do not know about would be appreciated. I would even be willing to join you at any location since I will be constantly shunned for smoking outside on the back porch.
It really sucks that things are this way due to the economy, particularly in my field, but I gotta do what I gotta do i guess.
Looks like Memorial Day weekend is moving time for me.

Thank you all for your encouraging words, its not in my field, but I have a factory job waiting for me there. I used to work there in-between semesters during the summer. Hopefully I can keep at that until I find something better.

Dont get me wrong, I absolutely love my parents and am so grateful they are even allowing this. They just dont like some of my lifestyle choices (ie, cigars)

Therefore, but by the grace of god, go I. (we) Sorry about the tough luck, on the bright side, you're 24 and have parents to move in with!

Actually, my wife's son (notice how I refrained from saying "step-son") has recently moved "back" in with us, he's 25. It is an adventure. From the "parent" side of me, try to understand we mean well.

Good luck, Sweem, and try not to get too discouraged.

I went to college on Staten Island (which is part of NYC), and had fully intended to get a job in Manhattan so I could stay in NYC, but after staying with a couple different friends the whole summer looking for work (and thus wearing out my welcome), I finally had to give in, swallow my pride, and go back home to New Jersey. Within a few weeks of being there I found a warehouse job, which was absolutely devastating to me, but I did it for a year and a half, got an apartment with some friends (and thus out of my p and m's house, so I could breathe a bit). A friend knew of an opening at a bookstore, a position I wouldn't have gotten were it not for my warehouse experience, and sure enough I got that job, my first in Manhattan, and was able to move back to Staten Island and be near my friends again. And it's been mostly onward and upward since.

So while much of that was a dark time in my life, I kept my eye on my goal, and I did it. And I'm sure you can too.
