First let me say I have been a big 601 fan from the start. I was one of the voices of the people that pushed to get them in at our local B&M. I have been a fan of Eric and Eddie since Eric's visit to the Party Source when They first released the REO and Vibe. But lately I've noticed a disturbing trend. I'm not talking about a cigar here or a cigar there, I mean a consistent issue. The quality of the 601 seems to be going down hill!
Over the past month or so I have had more 601's with plug's, soft spots. and poor burns then I have had good burning 601's. I'm not sure if EO Cigars has someone else rolling the 601 now, or if it's still being rolled by Pepin Garcia, but if it is still being rolled by Pepin could this be the first sign of the Pepin Garcia growing pains as he focuses more on his line of cigars and maybe the Ashton cigars. Could we be seeing one of the reasons why Padilla split ties with PG?
So has anyone else notice the construction issues in the 601? What are your thoughts?

I have not noticed it in the 601s. But I have noticed it in some of the other PG cigars.

I've just received some of Pepins Casa Royals I let them rest about a week and then I let you know how they are.
The 601's I have in my humi are about 3 months old and they are fantastic, in construction and flavor...(Red & Green Label)

I received a 601 from TBM that smoked fine and I didn't have any problems with it. For the March Madness Pass, I took a 601 maduro that I haven't smoked yet, but as soon as I do, I'll let ya know how it was.

I think that the quality drop is because Pepin is focusing on his line. The change that I've noticed has been in over the last couple of months with the 601. A lot of pluged cigars.

Sandi Those Cigars were bought last summer, and every one have been smoking beautifully! when it comes time to spark it up it should be a good one.

Pablo,

I have had a few Pepin JJ Belicoso's lately that have had splitting on the wrapper. The taste, draw, and construction are fine, but that damn wrappers split. I hope Pepin isn't taking on more than he can handle. I'd hate to see quality cigars such as his go down the crapper.

We haven't had any QC issues with DPG line or Tatuaje. HOWEVER....

The Oscuro's (Green and Gold Label) seem more likely to be soft (which is typically a sign of "undercuring") they have a propensity to taste a little metallic.

San Cristobal: Yep, the last couple of boxes of the Guajiro has been... Off. Not plugged, no soft spots, just... Off.

So, what the hell is going on? Well, consider the fact that, with modern physics as we understand it, you can't be in two places at once. Pepin divides his time between Miami and Nicaragua. While he is the lord of all he surveys, sometimes, stuff happens when the boss isn't around....

Not all San Cristobal's are off, and not all 601 Oscuro's suck.... it just happens

And trust me, this isn't the reason PG and Ernesto cut ties... TRUST me...

Eric

Yes there are lots of legit reasons these things COULD happen, but jaded l'il old me just calls it "bait and switch" whenever newish cigars take a sudden turn downward.

so... let the buyer beware? That is disturbing, when paying $$$ for a stick...

Like I said, there may be perfectly good reasons...or not, based on my observations of this kind of thing for a lotta years now.

I don't think it's a "bait and switch" as much as I think Eric hit it with "you can't be in 2 places at the same time". Since I first posted this thread I have smoked more good 601's then poor. But at the same time I have seen others run into the same problem I was having with the cigar.

Mine were all pretty good, I had a sampler pack . All seem to burn even, construction was a little weak but for the most part still a great smoke.
