In an effort promote the Monocacy Cigar Lodge in Frederick, MD (http://www.clubstogie.com/vb/showthread.php?t=142843), I am pleased to announce the first MCL Herf/Golf Tournament! It will be held on Saturday, May 31st at the Rattlewood Golf Course outside Mt. Airy, MD (http://www.montgomerycountygolf.com/RW_home.html). We have tee times for 8 groups (32 players) at $90 per person. This covers the greens fee, cart, range balls, and a very nice barbecue buffet catered by the award winning Damon’s Restaurant. The first group tees off at 9AM. The buffet will include:
BBQ chicken
Southern pork BBQ with roll
Beef brisket with BBQ sauce and roll
Cole slaw
Baked beans
Garlic mashed potatoes

Depending on how things go with sponsors and other generous benefactors, each player will receive a gift bag with cigars to smoke during the tournament, and whatever other golf/cigar goodies we can come up with. Also, door prizes will be given out during the devouring of the buffet. To keep things moving and fun for all the players regardless of skill level, the tournament will be a “best ball” or “Captain’s Choice” competition. There will be a prize for the “closest to the pin” and “longest drive” contest winners. The players on the three teams with the lowest scores (1st, 2nd, and 3rd places) will win an as yet undetermined prize.

This promises to be a great time, and we hope it will become an annual tradition for many years to come. You can tell your grandchildren, “I played in the first one!” Please send me a message if you want more information or to reserve your slot. Don’t wait too long ‘cause they’re gonna go fast!

Here's an update about the tournament. Some really great gifts and prizes have started to come in from various sponsors and contributors. Golf balls, cigar "clips" that attach to the window frame on a golf cart and hold your cigar, golf tees, and some other goodies. By the 31st, I think we'll have a lot of fun stuff to "bomb" the players with!

Slots are still open!

More cool stuff has been donated to the tournament from the (are you ready for this?) White House Golf Club. Yes, THE White House Golf Club!!! I'll attach a pic once I get my act together.

Not only has the guy from the White House Golf Club donated some great prizes for us to give away, but now he has offered to sponsor (to pay the entrance fees!) a team from cigarpass.com. Is socialcigar.com ready to field a team to defend its honor??? Here's a pic of the goodies he donated.

Another bump to see if SC has four member willing to take the "gold" at the MCL Tournament. There are still slots open, so sign up now! Single players are welcome!

How "serious" will the golfing be? I haven't golfed in a year and half, still need to check with the boss who is out of town at the moment, but I may be interested. What other t-times are open?

Robert,

This is a "best ball" or "Captain's Choice" tournament. Every player hits a shot, and then everyone hits from the position of the best shot, and so on for each shot. It's faster and more fun for a friendly tournament like this (if your teammates do well it helps you). Rather than keeping individual scores, there is only one team score. Definitely NOT serious golf. Personally I haven't swung a golfclub in anger in 6 months! I can E-mail you the tournament rules if you're interested. As for tee times, they all fall between 9 and about 10:15AM, give or take. There are only 8 groups/teams, of course four in each group.

I assume "the boss" is the pretty blond in your avitar picture? If not, can you PM me her number?!?!?

Actually the girl in the avatar was one of the CI girls from last year's CF. Kara is away on business (search my pictures and a few others know her too). I may be interested in doing this. I'm going away on vacation on Friday, but I'll figure it out by tomorrow.

Robert - maybe we can carpool over together. Social Cigar is going to be hosting a hole - I'll be manning that hole. Which means I'll be there for the tournament. If you want to ride over together, cool. Just let me know.

hope to hear how everything went, and get some photo's - if there are any.
