Always looking for the perfect smoke that I can share with friends over a beer after a hard day of riding horses, motorcycles, or kayaks. Though, not a heavy smoker (heavy for me would be 3 cigars in a week... most of the time, 2 during a weekend), I run on the premise that life is too short to smoke crappy cigars. However, cigars need not be expensive either. If I can find a very nice cigar for well under what comparable cigars go for, I'm a happy man!
Favorite Cigar Brands:
I'm a big fan of CAO. I like the Brasilia, and the Italia. I was able to procure a box of America's in the Potomac size - and I must say they are a work of art. I love the bands. I love the artwork, and I love the twisted duel wrappers. The only thing that really matters, is the taste, and I rate it pretty high - though it's nothing extra special.
My most favorite "often smoked" cigar to date is the Sancho Panza maduros, as they are a premium cigar with a premium taste, for a low price. The outer wrapper is nice and oily, with intricate veins. It's easy to cut, and the taste of the tobacco when you draw it unlit, is fresh and strong.
Other cigars of note are: Camacho Maduro, Indian Tobac, and Hoyo De Monterrey. For an extra spicy treat, I'll tempt fate and smoke a Don Lino Africa. Oddly, there is one cigar that is a favorite of mine, the Drew Estates Java. I'm not big on flavored cigars, but the Java is something special. It tastes good, it smells good, and smokes good.
The past few months, I've been smoking Padillia Maduro cigars. This is a full bodied cigar with lots of taste, and a smoke so heavy you can chew it. Padillia, ya did good!
What cigar accessories do you own?
Oh, pretty much everything. I own two proper humidors that I upkeep in the basement under favorable conditions. One I build out of a stainless steel canister that I lined with Spanish Cedar veneer from discarded cigar boxes. It has a locking, glass lid. Best humidor I've ever owned. I took two unused entertainment speaker stands and created cigar ashtrays for about $20. I'll post a pic sometime. I own a various assortment of lighters, cutters and punches, as well as travel humidors for my motorcycle and camping excursions.
How many box purchases do you make a year?
10-15 boxes
Did someone invite you to Social Cigar? And if so who?
Nope, found it on the net while searching for cigar info. Best site on the net.
RJ, someone else had a cigar that started off badly, then improved after the first inch, and it got me thinking. Why not chop the first inch off the IT Corojo, and see if it tastes any better.
Some cheaper cigars start off harsh, then get better as you get past the first inch. You've obviously got a cigar with that problem, so CHOP, cut to the middle, and see if it's any better.
I see I never gave you my official welcome to Social Cigar.
May I ask how you heard about us?
I love this place. I hope you come to enjoy it also!
BTW, nice line up of cigars you enjoy.
