Current SCHIP Program to be Extended to 2009--Veto Override Attempt Appears Unlikely

As you know, the President vetoed the current SCHIP legislation on December 12. The House leadership has scheduled a vote for January 23, 2008 to attempt to override that veto. It appears that the House will not be able to muster the 2/3 vote necessary to override the veto.

President Bush Vetoes SCHIP Expansion Bill For The Second Time

President George W. Bush on December 12th vetoed for the second time legislation aimed at expanding the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) by $35 billion over five years exclusively funded by increases in the Federal excise tax rates on tobacco products, saying "our nation's goal should be to move children who have no health insurance to private coverage, not to move children who already have private health insurance to government coverage."

President Bush had vetoed the…

Talking With Legislators Not as Intimidating as You Might Think

This blog actually comes from a response I posted to a question from a member here on Cigar Social. He replied to the discussion posted on the Call to Action Forum saying while he wanted to take action, he felt a bit intimidated to call his congressional representatives' offices. Second, he was not exactly sure what to say. He is far from being alone.

Let's face it--it's the government and most of us have a jaded opinion of the government--from local to federal, we, as constituents, ju…

Dear Chris,

Thank you.
I own a cigar store in San Diego, California. I am just a little guy, one store but I LOVE IT! It's my life. I want you to know how much some one like me appreciates what people like you and Chrsitian from Camacho are doing for not only yourselves but for people like me. I just had a long conversation with him and know that I need to get more invovled. I am very much invovled in our politics locally but need to be heard on a much larger scale as I am the person that will be put out of business if these yahoos get their way. I cannot let that happen for many reasons and need people like you Chrsitian who are knowlegable on the subject to help me in this fight. I have the time, energy and DESIRE to make some serious noise. I don't have the kind of money some might be able to put up but I am willing to do whatever it takes to make a difference. Please keep me advised. If your going to be in Vegas for the show I would love to meet you in person.

Again, Thank you,
DD

I really liked this!

There was a blind girl who hated herself because she was blind.

She hated everyone, except her loving boyfriend. He was always there for her.

She told her boyfriend,

'If I could only see the world, I will marry you.'

One day, someone donated a pair of eyes to her. When the bandages came off, she was able to see everything, including her boyfriend.

He asked her,

'Now that you can see the world, will you marry me?'

The girl looked at her boyfriend and saw that he was blind. The sight of his closed eyelids shocked her. She hadn't expected that. The thought of looking at them the rest of her life led her to refuse to marry him.

Her boyfriend left her in tears and days later wrote a note to her saying:

'Take good care of your eyes, my dear, for before they were yours, they were mine.'

This is how the human brain often works when our status changes.

Only a very few remember what life was like before, and who was always by their side in the most painful situations.

Life Is a Gift

Today before you say an unkind word -

Think of someone who can't speak.

Before you complain about the taste of your food - Think of someone who has nothing to eat.

Before you complain about your husband or wife - Think of someone who's crying out to GOD for a companion.

Today before you complain about life -

Think of someone who went too early to heaven.

Before you complain about your children -

Think of someone who desires children but they're barren.

Before you argue about your dirty house someone didn't clean or sweep -

Think of the people who are living in the streets.

Before whining about the di stance you drive

Think of someone who walks the same distance with their feet.

And when you are tired and complain about your job -

Think of the unemployed, the disabled, and those who wish they had your job.

But before you think of pointing the finger or condemning another -

Remember that not one of us is without sin and we all answer to one MAKER.

Just wanted to share this with my friends

Chris, thank you for your comments and although I would love to take credit / ownership for it, I can't.

A marketing group wanted to start this site and came to us seeking a sponsor and we agreed. I hope you enjoy it and get many members to join the Call to Action group.
