Hometown:
Brooklyn, NY
Relationship Status:
Single
About Me:
My life is never boring. I like to travel, and thrill to making connections with new people, and making new friends, in all times and places. I grew up in New Jersey, came to NYC to get my undergraduate degree in the early 80s, got back here as quickly as I could after college was over, and have been here ever since. I've lived in 4 of the 5 boroughs of NYC - Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island and now Brooklyn.

I make my living as assistant to 2 partners in a law firm, and am a musician on the side - I sing mainly Early Music (Medieval, Renaissance & Baroque music), with a specialty in sacred chant.

I was married in the 90s, but now have been divorced for a few years, and am going through the process of mapping out my own destiny in the world. Part of that process has been expanding my interest in and knowledge of cigars, spirits, and musical genres previously unknown to me.

The second monthly (I hope) "Women, Power & Cigars" Event at Renaissance Cigar Emporium, Harlem, NY, Wednesday May 21, 2008

On the morning of the 21st, I was debating whether I should go to the "Women, Power & Cigars" event that evening. I had had two performances in the previous 4 nights, and been out past 1am the night before, and thus had little sleep. I had already been to the first such event a month earlier, and reported on it in a blog entry here. It wouldn't kill me to miss this one, and go home and get a good night's sleep, would it?

But then again, there were some compelling reasons to go that…

April 26 and 27 Herf in DC and Maryland

Two weeks have gone by, and many of those who took photos at this great event have already posted them, so I thought it would be great to write my own admittedly very personal account of the herf from Bailey's Pub and Grille in Arlington, VA and the much smaller gathering that took place the next day at the Humidour in Timonium, MD. I took Amtrak down to DC midday on Saturday, 4/26.

Before going to the Herf, I had to visit an elderly friend who is in the Methodist home way up on Connec…

The "Women, Power & Cigars" Inaugural Event at Renaissance Cigar Emporium, Harlem, NYC on April 16th, 2008

Sandi, who is so well connected and always knows what's going on before I do, was the one who told me about the "Women, Power & Cigars" Event at the Renaissance Cigar Emporium in Harlem. I immediately rsvped, thinking that this would be a wonderful chance to meet some people I would otherwise never meet. Of course that really goes without saying - the major portion of my experience smoking cigars is that it is an indulgence that brings me to people whose path I would never cross. And when…

Thoughts on Cuba and Cuban Cigars, part two

A couple of weeks ago I was in Velvet Cigar Lounge in the East Village. This one guy says, "you know, these days I'm becoming a Cuban snob" (meaning he only wants to smoke Cuban cigars) and a second guy responds, "there are worse things you could do". Now I know a lot of cigar smokers would nod their heads in agreement with these statements. And if you read Cigar Aficionado, and probably many other publications discussing cigars, you get the impression that the ultimate goal of cigar connoisse… Continue

How I started, part two/my more recent experiences with cigars

So in 1991 when I started smoking cigars, the one handmade cigar brand you could find in drugstores, diners and any where else that would have them was Te Amo. From my earlier experiences with nasty machine-mades, I knew to stay away from them, which you could find anywhere. So once I became seasoned enough that I could smoke an entire cigar, I would often pick up a Te Amo when I felt like a cigar. If I was lucky, I would find a larger size, like a Presidente, which was great because even back t… Continue

Good Morning. I responded to Anita's event, but more than likely I'll come home and go to sleep. I've been tired since starting at Prudential Monday...lol The commute isn't bad though. Enjoy the event at Velvet. I may just stop by Rennaisance around 7 or 8pm. Yeah, Famous is not fitting into my budget. Maybe in September or October we can do a Famous & Holts day. My budget is not allowing for any more cigars.

Let me get ready for my journey to Newark. Enjoy the day.

Ok that makes me feel better, all is right with the world again, lol. I don't have an Ipod, DD does, but we use iTunes on the computer at home, It's a whole lot easier than digging through hundreds of cds for what I want RIGHT NOW!! I was thinking about making you a mix tape, on CD of some of this stuff, if anything looks interesting, let me know and I can burn it. Right now, we've got 16.47 GB on iTunes. It tells me it would take me 22.5 days to listen to it all.

I mean really?!! I think that's against the law or something!! I'm gonna have to get out Awesome I F****ing Shot That just to help me cope with the fact that there are people living in NYC who don't know who they are. That's messed up yo.
